Protip: if you buy organic rice here...do not let it sit out too long. It's...not a pretty site folks. |

Any rice actually....
I was told that Koreans usually wash their rice and then store it in a sealed container. If you don't wash your rice...then you're eating their eggs...
I got them once really bad...they got into all of my pastas and my flours.
It wasn't so nice.... |

I have bought a *patch* like thing that stop weevils and other unsightly little insects from growing in the rice. It smells very strongly of mustard and works like a charm.
Dunno what it's called though... |

How in the heck do you wash rice and then store it? If it gets wet then it swells and spoils. Fungis and sh*t will grow from the moisture in a few days of wet rice being in a container. I'm afraid you're patch thing is poisonous chemicals. I'm sure it is if it keeps life away from it's food source. Sounds like pesticide you're eating.
If you eat the eggs, will these parasites grow inside of you causing you to have a case of the weevils requiring insecticidal in-body treatment? LMAO!
I remember my uncle Davie in the navy said he did KP duty in the mess hall back in the 70's using rice and flour with weevils when on ship for several months at a time. The sailors ate cooked weevils!!! Yucky!!! |

I once had them in a bag of rice. I hauled it to the trash, and the landlady got all upset and took it. She told me if I ever had them again to give her the bag. She took the rice to the roof, spread it out and apparently the weevils (as you call them, I didn't know what they were) flew or blew away. Then she fed it to her family. I still think the trash is where it belonged. |

JSYK, it's not only organics... they can come in any grain/flour/bean product just about. The best thing to do is freeze it as soon as you buy it. That should kill any eggs, so they won't hatch. For better or worse, you won't know if you're eating eggs. You can take it out of the freezer after a day or two, and then just store in a sealed container. I have had some nasty experiences with bugs in my chickpeas (I was soaking them to sprout them and apparently the bugs liked it too much), flour, meal moths/worms in rice taking over the kitchen, etc.
Anyway, you should rinse the grains/beans before use anyway, but freezing as soon as you buy is my best advice. |

Is white rice and better than brown rice?
I have a variety of states of inedibility in my brown rice, from bugs to the smell of dirt, to just a musty smell. So I have given up eating Korean brown rice. In fact, I have stopped making rice at home.
Do you know where the farmers dry their rice?
I've seen them drying it on the highway. I saw it from the bus many times. Sometimes it was on the shoulder by the turn, other times it was in a dividing median. I'm talking about on the pavement. Cars, buses, trucks and scooters were all going by the rice you are eating. Since it was drying on the actual road, they had every right to drive over it, if they chose to.
I don't think the rice is fully dried. I chopped some up in a blender that didn't smell bad and it seemed it was kinda moist and soft. That might be why it spoils in a sealed bag.
I'm sticking to Thai rice noodles. |

My wife keeps the rice in a closed plastic container and puts that in the fridge. We wash it four or five times before cooking in the Cuckoo. |

I got them in my barley and then they migrated to the rice... and to everywhere else in the apartment. Before I realized that they had been in my rice multiplying I put some into the rice cooker bowl and added water... it was teeming with them... I asked the mini corner store if they had any rice and they looked at the bowl, said it didn't matter, just wash them out and eat it... bleh....
They can eat through plastic and other bins so be careful about having rice if you don't eat it very often. |

I always freeze my brown rice as much as possible. It goes bad after a couple months in room temperature. And yeah, there are the bugs too. |
