I'm going to Beijing for a week in Jan and am signing up here for cooking classes:
www.hiasgourmet.com
I'm totally psyched!!
just wanted to share if anyone else is going (ever!) something fun to check out. The price is pretty reasonable - maybe $30?
cheers!! |

| It looks interesting. Are you actually cooking or watching chefs prepare food? I read through the website and one option looks like it is hands on while another option doesn't really say. |

this was SO MUCH FUN!!!
oh my goodness!! the woman who taught the class is the daughter of a chef; we made a greenbean dish (oh how I miss greenbeans here in K!!), braised beef, braised tofu and a chicken dish.
the classes were actually in her home, one of those outdoor type kitchens in older homes, there were pots of water boiling all around on small coal stoves!! totally awesome! of course it was covered because of the cold but in summer must be lovely - large table, lots of chopping. I learned all about vinegars, soy sauces and cooking wines for Chinese sauces. Of course I got to take the recipes home - all was so awesome!!
I totally recommend this if you are going to Beijing! |
