Yea, see we just got this brand new fancy health club (even has body composition analyzer) in our town a couple months ago and guys are actually using it as a cigarette smoking room. WTF???

Yea, after my workout last night, I walked into the locker room drenched in sweat and feelin like a million bucks, but smelled ol' Marlboro man going at it. He didn't convince me to partake in his smoky activities this time because I'm a quitter. And then the Marlboro man himself walked out of the shower room dry and in full clothes. I'm thinking. WTF??? Couldn't he wait? I mean you go to a health club to get a 1 to 1.5 hour workout and then you leave. Some guys go in for only 15 minutes at a slow 3 KPH on a stationary bike and then go for a smoke while other people spend 1 to 2 hours getting seriously fit. Since you go to a health club, because you're conciously concerned about your health, you don't expect Mr. Cigarette to show up since he's one unhealthy decietful feller. I say no to him and his tricky teaser tactics since he causes heart problems.

How can someone be so inconsiderate to stink up a nice new gym with cigarette smoke when it's obviously a place for puritans practicing puritanism?

The question is not "Why is he smoking in the shower room?", it's "Why are you showering in the smoking room?"

BOOYAH.

LMAO! Not sure what the BOOYAH means, but you're so funny. Shocked

You mean to tell me that my gym membership also includes a smoking room with built in hydro fire safety designed to extinguish the Marlboro mans fire? Dam, all along I was using it as a shower!!! Silly me....

If you haven't noticed, K men will and do smoke anywhere at any time. I suppose some of them even smoked during their wedding ceremonies...

Someone beat me to it. I was just about to say the same thing, people smoke where they want here regardless of whether it is right or not. I just ignore it because there is nothing you can do. I also hate the smell of cigarettes having grown up with two parents that smoked.

Personally, I never smoke in the locker room but if someone else does I could care less and wouldn't think to start a thread about it on an internet forum. But, that's just me.

I do ignore it and won't say anything. I thought it was funny and wanted to get silly on a forum about it. Laughing at and picking fun on illogical different customs and rules is one of the great joys of going to foreign countries. It's my right to have the freedom to say something though I must be respecting as to NOT tell another country what they SHOULD do. I really could care less too as it's not my building and I know being in Korea requires your lungs and heart to take on on Mr. Marlboro, Mr. Diesel, and Mr. Sewer. I do care about my heart though and think about it every day cuz it's one mighty important piece of equipment that commonly fails my people at home. (Scary) I guess these smoky guys are dirty things who can't stop polluting and making brown the worlds fresh sparkling air we all so have a right to.

OK, Mr. Cigarette man, stop doing that over there in the corner as my air quality over here is taking a real seriously huge dump. Arrrrgghh!!

I would have told him different, and you should have too if it bothered you.

A guy tried to get into the elevator with me the other day with a smoke burning. I pushed him out. He tried to get back in, but I was not having it until the butt was put out. He then extinguished the smoke, after he got on the elevator and just before the doors closed, a woman and her infant baby got on. Could you imagine this a-hole smoking a butt in an elevator with a baby being forced to breathe it in.

I love my butts, but i know they are wrong for me and those around me. With that said, I won't smoke around my girl, my friends who don't smoke or their childeren. And I surely won't smoke in a gym.

Next time, just ask him to put it out. All smokers know its wrong. All of them.
DK
ps, Korea would be top shelf if there was courtesy here.

First you must assume that the Korean dudes are there to actually work out as opposed to checking themselves out in the mirror. In fact, a recent poll conducted in the US concluded that the majority of men (and women) go to the gym not to get in shape but as a social (meeting people) event. Anyway, have you seen the Korean dudes blow drying their, ahem, nether region? Yep, one foot up on the sink counter and blowdryer (and comb) going to town...

To most Koreans, a gym is just a sauna (jjim jil bang) with better exercise facilities. That changing room environment is pretty much the same. If you've been to a sauna, you know the cigs go up like crazy. Logically, it is pretty contradictory, but I know people who love a cig after working out. "Feels good after the lungs are clear," they say. Personally I think it's pretty harsh.

You know you've been in Korea a long time when you don't even find it ironic to see Koreans smoking directly under a no smoking sign.

Better then the young guy I saw when I came out of the shower room last month. Standing there with an erection watching TV. Almost like he was trying to show off. Had his hands on his hips and everything.
