So who exactly would you teach a "dirty talk" lesson to? |

I've made lessons teaching students not to use dirty talk.
That's it. |

Well there's always "The F Word" on youtube Teaches grammar and uses.
But... uhm... I wouldn't suggest actually using it. With a few of my *friends* who wanted to know how to swear, I gave them the link... but never in class. |

I have often thought about this problem. TV is full of all kinds of swear words. Movies are filled with them. In discourse among native speakers, these words are often used. They have become increasingly mainstream. How would students know their meaning if they aren't taught correctly. Instead, they blurp out the f word inappropriately when they are given a punishment. I double the punishment when this happens, but they really don't know the significance of the word they are saying ..... |

Oh, wow. I thougth you meant swearing. That I could support (it being a huge part of English pop culture), but even if your intentions are pure as newly-fallen snow, there's a good chance you're going to come across as a creepy perv bringing this lesson up in class. |

There's one on the English Club site. Scroll down to the "fun worksheet" (their description) called "Taboo or Not Taboo?"
Never used it in class myself ... and probably never will. |

That taboo lesson on the talking points looks hilarious. In the right class it would go down a storm.
Like I said I used a book called 'Taboos and Issues' alot this year. It contains lessons on things like 'gays and jobs' and 'abortion' and 'swearing'.
These lessons are tricky and you have to remain neutral at all times, but they were definitely the majority of my students favourite classes. Just so good for inducing conversation and bringing them out of their shell. I teach a wide range of nationalities but the Koreans usually find them hilarious too.
Because I teach in the UK they are eager to learn about the culture as well as the language and they like learning how to swear because they can understand what is being said around them (eg in the pub). Likewise they can learn acceptable Western points of view on things like abortion.
I like the cultural ambassador aspect of the job alot.
Merry Xmas anyway, God bless ya |
