Great, they wired together a country the size of Virginia. I'm flabbergasted at the prowess. |

Maybe someday "Hi-tech" South Korea can figure out how to give foreigners international ATM cards. |

right. SK doesnt have anything larger than the man won bill; the large number of street vendors and outdoor markets dictate one must carry cash; no checking accounts again - cash or else one has to make a trip to the atm to transfer funds, or do it online - but wait - my main computer is a mac and K bank technology isn't supported on the mac os -
I hardly ever carried cash around when I moved to K in 2003; now I have 3 bank accs here (not all my choice); 2 atm cards, one debit card which I can use at Emart but not Lotte Mart ?? and altho 2 say they are good overseas I've yet to try that because others say they won't work.
and putting a freakin' tv set on a skyscraper, in a subway and on a city bus isn't about technology it's about mass consumerism, plain and simple.

Correct, everything is very high tech - But it's about time some of the barriers come down making it difficult for foreigners to obtain some of these latest gizmos without hassle. You know what problem I have lately? My prepaid phone is blocking ALL incoming phones suddenly without warning even after topping up. What kind of shit is that for a high tech country? All show if you ask me. For such a high-tech country, it sure is hard to use a prepaid phone. Back in the UK, a prepaid phone is as easy as 1-2-3. You buy it, turn it on, put some money on it with a check or credit card, etc and your set. No trekking to a LG store every month after it gets disabled. And even then, half of the stores don't know what they are doing. |

I was trying to find the time on the bus because I forgot y cell and don't wear a watch. The analog clock was broken, but they have an LCD screen at the back of the driver's head that didn't do anything... yeesh, what does it take to add a digital clock in the picture of the LCD... so much for low-tech and practical |

Or how about being able to e-mail Koreans from a non-Korean e-mail account without having to be on their address book first? |

Are you guys really complaining?
Wow,
Wake up guys. You live in one of the world's most convient, connected areas of the world.
instead of moaning and whinning about these tiny things, think about all the things you can do here that you can't in your homecountry.
Jeez, talk about being out of perspective, you guys are like old women. "Arg my blouse is too tight, and I can't climb these stairs, waaa"

Korea is wonderful in its hi-techness but a few things in the article are really false and considering it was written by a Korean, I'd suspect as much. As for 3G technology, Korea is, or has been for the past 1-2 years, been getting on the 3G bandwagon but Japan has had 3G technology for 6 years and is far more developed in that regard. The e-money technology is also based on a Japanese technology that has been used in Japan for almost 5 years. No disrespect to Korea as I love the tech in the ROK but you shouldn't have to make up stuff to get respect for Korea's awesome tech industry. |

Stupid country, not catering to someone who forgot their cell phone and does not wear a watch.
