Ditto. I've been stuck at work for 3 weeks now - on smiling duty. You know the one - where you just walk around looking busy - no teaching - just smiling and looking sparkled (on full pay).

I've just been told to go home early (it's embarrassing for me to be doing nothing while everyone is trying to sort out next year by 4.40pm today). Guess I'll have some more 'free time' this afternoon.

Wow. A Korean Santa Claus just came and delivered a present to my co-teacher. What next?

I liked the too much free time in China vs the too much much free time at my desk in Korea.

Sleeping is a sport in China, maybe you should get into that.

Q: what did you do on the holidays?
Chinese student: Sleep

Well, you've got more time to "get the led out" (and go crazy trying to cover Robert Plant vocals ...)

That was like my students in Korea. My 10 year olds. I never heard of 10 year old in North America looking fwd to holidays so they can sleep. Most don't want to sleep. They're ready to wake up at the crack of dawn to play video games all day.

Maybe they just didn't know how to say that. They'd always laugh when I'd say "Sleep? Are you sure you don't mean play video games all night?" Smile Then they'd say that next time I asked. Who knows what they actually do??

I'm currently on vacation at my parents' place in buttfvck nowhere. There is nothing to do but use the computer and read books. You can't even go for a walk because it's too cold. At least I'm not lonely like the OP, I guess.

when i lived in China i had a part time job doing voice-overs for commercials. it paid more than teaching.

i use my free time to develop new skills. since i have lived in Asia i took up painting and have had some surprisingly successful art shows. now my hobby actually pays for itself and a bit extra.

learn to play an instrument, learn languages, volunteer... so many things to do. anyone who is bored needs to focus on productivity!
