GTA4 is very playable on most stronger systems.
At fairly high settings my E8400/HD4870/4GB system gets an average FPS in low-30's. |

Just make sure you leave the case open a crack.
PCs are people too.
Seriously, if you're going to get a system I understand that the Phenom 2s are coming out very soon. If you can wait until they do you should see if they're competitive, or if not there may be a round of price cuts. You know how it goes.
Anyway, here's my build:
CPU MC68000
GPU Fat Angus
Sound processor Paula.
m/b system chip Denise.
Put 512KB RAM and an 880k DDDS floppy on that beast and rock on! |

Might I recommend one of [url=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820609331]these SSDs[/b] for your OS and perhaps a 2nd for games so they load quickly? They're pretty cheap. Then you could easily throw in a TB or whatever for storage? I do see now that they're MLC, so they don't write as quickly, but they read VERY quickly. I need to read more about them, maybe you should, too.
Also, I know you're an nVidia guy, but you really should look at the 4870s and the 4870x2s, they're really good cards. |

Sweet.
Bet you can't wait to spark that bad boy up......
One little suggestion.......I find when doing the system evaluation in Vista that it's always the HDD gets the lowest score. Using 7200rpm drives.
For what you're paying, it might be worth getting a 250GB 10,000rpm drive for the OS and game/software files (C: drive)........then maybe another 1TB or 1.5TB drive for video/music/photos. |

That's good to hear. I'm far out of the loop with regards to PC gaming as I haven't had a decent PC in years. I'd heard that GTA IV was ridiculously demanding, even on top end systems.
Congrats on getting your system, Cuban Lord! |

| Wow. I wish I could drop 1,500,000won on the CPU,GPU and RAM. Run the total price past your wife before you spend the money. She said there's 'no price limit' but sometimes communication in a marriage leaves something to be desired. My wife thinks 700,000 is an expensive PC and 300,000 and expensive bicycle. Of course if you're DINK and she knows what you're planning to spend then go get your rocks of. You lucky bastard. |
HI OWT,
My wife knows how I am and she really appreciates the honesty. She said this is her gift to me. Last night we were taking a shower and she asked me about it again. I told her that as of right now, it is looking like $1,500. She asked one simple question: What does the $1500 PC have that a much cheaper one you can build not have? I told her that in order for me to play my PC games and any games in the next couple of years, I will need a powerful PC. She knows I play a lot of multiplayer games online and knows that I save a LOT of money playing games rather than going out and getting trashed every night. To further it, I am here with her and when she wants me off the PC, I get off. So, she has no resentment towards me getting a new PC. She understood and said okay to $1,500 last night.
I am very honest with her and it helps. |
Never mind the PC; how much for your wife? |

Hi,
I found the Phenoms to be at par with the current I7s. There may be some fluxuation between the two, but, the Phenoms are slated for July. I didn't want to wait that long. |
