Getting off the plane in Manilla they have guards and hotel people that try to rip you off. They tried to tell me it was 4000 a night for the hotels.

These guys are dressed as security but they still lie through their teeth.

I took a taxi to a hotel they suggested without booking it with them and I got it for 2000 for the night.

Not a bad place City Garden hotel 10 minutes from the airport. taxi driver wanted 750 but i asked for meter and it was only 190.

If you look to your left out the doors there is yellow metered taxis that are safe.

It better to book your domestic flights here as they are much cheaper here then when I tried to book in Korea.

Good points. Yes, I always go upstairs and take the incoming taxis and quickly negotiate a price (if you insist on a meter, they'll just stop at gas stations and take long routes). I find the OFFICIAL TAXIS are the biggest ripoff you can imagine. Very overpriced and they'll ask for a tip as well.

How long are you in Manila? Just overnight? Looks like you were directed near the airport? Even the 190 (while still pretty good) is a bit overpriced.

I once got a taxi in MAKATI (near Greenbelt 3) to the airport and using the meter it was 100 pesos (cheapest I ever got it for!) But usually anything coming out of the airport itself always ends up being several hundred pesos somehow or another, so 190 is still real good.

I have paid as much as 600 pesos for a hotel once near the airport, my first time, using the official taxis. Yeah, they'll certainly rip you off if they can.

Here's the best travel trip regarding Manila:

SKIP MANILA ALTOGETHER! Or at least get out as fast as you can. There are 1000 great places to visit in the Philippines. Manila ain't one of them.

If you're lucky enough to have good friends (locals) living there, Manila can be a GREAT time. I just got back from a 16 day trip (spent a couple of nights in Manila on either end) and had a blast.

The Fort is a cool area to hang out with well-to-do young folks, but again it really helps if you have local friends to help break the ice.
