Came home today and turned my ondol system on as it's cold. Have no hot water and an orange light is flashing above the 물보층 setting. The thermostat keeps flickering between 13,14 and 15 degrees. Can someone diagnose this and tell me how to restore heat?

it could be something as simple as needing water in the boiler (but don't ask me more about this I don't know), needs to be reset, or something more serious.

you should call the landlord or if you don't know how or who that is, call your coteacher and tell them about it.

if they give you a hard time about no one can come until Monday and your place is really cold -

insist on someone coming - there are 24 hr services here same as anywhere else - do you have an electric heater for back up?

or tell them to put you up in a hotel - it's really cold outside brrr Shocked

Hmmm, let me try this, someone is going to have to correct it and I don't have hangul on this windows install. Go to your apartment's maintenance office and go 'jeogi nun 3333ho. ondol mul-i anneundeyo. doa jushi getsumnikka?' "Apartment 3333 is over there. The ondol has no water. Can you help me out?"

Edit: Every Korean man knows how to bleed the boiler. You turn a valve at the bottom until water comes out instead of air. Have a mannon or two on ya, that's the standard maintenance out-call fee.

Take a look on the underside of your boiler. There might be a small knob or valve there. Turn it clockwise. All going well a trickle of water will start draining to the floor. Let it run for 10 or 20 seconds. Turn it off.

Then you'll likely need to push the reset button on the boiler. Might be a green button on the front, might be recessed in a hole in the casing. (Thermostat needs to be on).

You cant do any harm by trying. Best luck!

It also may be under the kitchen sink. Look for a ribbed knob with a little spigot under it.

As to how to add water? No idea! If you find out, let me know, as I'll soon be moving to a place where you DO need to add water!

That's beyond me, I have one boiler, one pipe comes in, one goes to the shower, one goes to the kitchen, one goes to the floor.

anyway I'll see if I can find the thread for future reference - probably it should have been made a sticky.

*oops no luck - it's buried deep in the bowels of the forums, I suppose Laughing

Well, basically people know what you're talking about, it's only the assholes that give you a blank stare. Bad Korean is more acceptable the farther you get from Seoul.

Nah, it'd be alright if it were spoken fast.

I get you back for your insult about samkyopsal being 'too complicated' for me. Life is full of complications, not all based on one's merit at the task.
