This comes out of my current experience. I remember a director who couldn't speak English, and, for that or other reasons, would never show himself, and had a go-between manager for relations with all employees. I don't recall any problems I had in that office.
Now, I work in an office with a micromanaging director. Her office is among all the classrooms, she's present all day, she speaks English as well as you could ask, her cousin is my co-teacher and, in general, the floor is 'bit' more stressed out than is comfortable for me. Plus, the workday is on split shift. So, 9:10 am until 7:30 pm.
Personally, for professional reasons, I like the retiring male director persona, from what I've experienced. |

As long as they leave me alone to do my job, I don't care if they are man or woman, speak English of not. My current job is near perfect in this regard. I see my direct supervisor (speaks English) maybe once every two weeks even though her office is right next to mine. I see the department president (speaks German but very little English) twice a semester, and even then only when we're both drunk. |
