|
|
So, I have a DS and the R4 chip. Currently, I'm on v1.18. I have scoured the internet for upgrading techniques. I can find the programs and files, but the how-to is a needle in a haystack.
Anyone on the latest firmware / emulation? How do I do it? I want to be able to play Phantasy Star Zero and ChronoTrigger. |

From what I've read, the DSR4 team is no longer support the R4 chip with firmware updates.
Looks like you'll have to buy a newer card. |

How to:
After downloading and decompressing the new updated files, there will be one moonshl folder and two files: _DS_MENU.DAT, _DS_MSHL.NDS. Copy these files to the root directory to replace the former files. |

I'd recommend taking everything off your SD card and backing it up on your computer. Then drag and drop the English firmware to the SD card and see if it works. If so, add your games, apps, etc, you have backed up but not the previous firmware files and folders.
But first, find out what R4 version you have. Is it the original R4, R4HC, or something else? You must update firmware from the proper manufacturer website. |

There are a bunch of things you gotta do to play Chrono Trigger.
First, you have to determine if your R4 card is a real one or a copy/knock off
Then you have to try and get the "correct" patched Chrono Trigger ROM for your R4.
Or, I heard you can get the YASU firmware/menu for your R4, then play it like you would on a DSTT, using the Cheat Code work around with the original ROM.
Bottom Line, its a pain in the ass to play Chrono Trigger. |

don't mean to hijack the topic, but which is the best card for copied games I can pick up in yongsan this weekend?
i want to send it back to my niece in the UK for her birthday. Can I copy the games and everything on my laptop without needing an actual ds in my hands so all she has to do is plug it in when she recieves it? |

Yeah, you can. When you pick up the cart, it usually includes a Micro SD memory card and a USB adapter for the Micro SD. The guys down at Yongsan usually include a bunch of games, but the firmware will most likely be in Korean.
So whichever cart you get, I'd recommend the R4HC (R4 High Capacity), go to their webpage and update the firmware to English. Next, go to a site like http://www.romulation.net/NDS/ to download games. To transfer games from your computer>DS, it's as easy as dragging and dropping files. |

For Chrono Trigger I just downloaded a pre-patched version off of Demonoid. If you don't have demonoid and want a link let me know and I'll upload it. |

I have a DSTT card, and the prepatched will not work on it.
As far as I've read, the cycloDS card is the best one on the market now. mainly because of the support from the makers in updating firmware/features/etc....
Too bad they don't sell the cycloDS here. I guess I'll have to go pick one up next time I head home. |

| I have the M3 Real and all the games seem to work on it. Gets updates often also. Chrono trigger works without a patch on it, finished that game about 2 weeks ago. |
