India has always been much cheaper than Thailand. Of course, you're paying for it in other ways like convenience, your peace and quiet, etc.

Why anyone would ever dare go to India is beyond me.

If you want the most bang for your buck, how about Bangladesh?

Are you just looking for the poorest country?

Allow me to retort. Last year I spent the most amazing few months of my life in India. There is X10 more culture history and architecture there than any of the 30 plus other countries that I have visited. Goa is amazingly tranquile, but yes the rest of India moves at a quick pace. The upside is that there are over a billion smiling, moderately English-speaking to help you out. It is also staggeringly cheap. I stayed in a castle (seriously) with a room that overlooked the battlements and the desert beyond for a paltry 8 dollars a night. The food is safe if you limit your meat and butter consumption. Thailand is great too however, maybe even better if you have only 2 weeks, India requires time to get around. The ruppe is the worst performing currency in Asia and the Won is the second worst so you even get a small deal there too.

The man won just isn't the man outside of his home land. Better xchange him for Franklin who is well known throughout the world. Franklin is a wanted man the world over as long as he is in perfect, and I mean perfect, can't state it enough, physical condition. Don't accept tatty, worn, spindled, or slightly ripped US bills anywhere. It's OK to get a bank or xchange to correct this issue on the spot.

As it still stands, you have to buy and use dollars as an international traveler as it's the de facto the world over though this may change with the currently deteriorating state of affairs surrounding the USA.

I'm sure India offers an enormous variety of experiences to dazzle you, but it requires lots of time as it's a huge under developed country. I want to take 2 months off to do that, 6 for a RTW, that includes Australia, Egypt, and Europe.

Question Exclamation

have you ever been to india? "dare to go"? you sound like one of those people who make assumptions before actually going through with things yourself. not everyone stays at home and cowers under the covers. Rolling Eyes

For a 2 week vacation, you should take into consideration that the flight to India costs twice as much. Also, sites in India are very far from each other - unless you are flying from one place to another or planning on staying in one area.
