I can't take it no more This desk-warming shit has to end... 4 weeks of it is not possible
It's just me and the VP that sits near me and all he does is talk on the phone and watch my computer Can't watch movies, listen to music nada..... can't even get the key to unlock my classroom
I've planned all camps, classes and even have them in a folder if he wants.....
I've read cnn, bbc, the marmots hole, daves, korea times, korea herald, the chosun ilbo, the donga ilbo, my local towns paper, checked my email etc.....
The man wont even let me pop in a Korean History movie He just LITERALLY wants me to SIT HERE and DO NOTHING......... WTF......
No other teacher is here.... just me and the big kimchi cheese. Does common sense not tell you that I AM NOT NEEDED HERE!!!!
lunacy enters. |

rent some korean films, go to http://www.koreanfilm.org/ and write down some titles you're interested in, ask your VP about them to initiate a dialogue, then head down and rent them, and watch those. I recommend June Diary (Bystanders in the US) and Beautiful Sunday. If you've never seen 2009 (Lost Memories in the US), that's a good start. Just watch them with korean audio and English subs. |

Watch movies. If he says not to, do it anyway. What is he going to do? If he says not to, switch, then turn it on again. Is he going to force you to turn it off, physically?
Download some language tapes, and practice talking to yourself.

Exactly. Just go to yahoo games and play some card games. There are A LOT of people in the USA/ROK/Canada/England who would be happy to have any job, right now. |

you could just stop sleeping at night, stay up until you arrive at work, and do all your sleeping there. would he mind u sleeping? Doing nothing and sleeping are pretty much the same thing. |

Hi There,
My school has been nice. They want me to stay around for the afternoon classes. Because of this on the off days they have given me some time dedicated to research at home.
The desk warming is only for the days I have class.
I really have traning to do once I get home but I am sure they will not ask for proof.
Come up with a decent research idea and maybe they will approve this.
(nb: Use your spare time in the office to seek out the perfect research from a TESOL journal which you can proudly copy, paste and produce as your work at the end of the day if need be)
It's time to bite back |

I know a good idea - a short story competiton about sititng at your desk - here is my entry - it is purely fictional!
"It is a good job I sit with my back to the wall in the corner of the staffroom where I can about business unoticed. On days like these during the winter break - where the only members of staff on duty are the principal, Mrs Park - my co-teacher, the delectable social studies teacher Ji Hye and super adjosshi soju freak Mr Kim - the physics teacher - thankfully - he has had his once a month wash and he doesn't stink as bad as he does normally - I get full whiff of his 'man odour' as he calls it and I am 20 feet away.
So I go about my business unoticed, I just came off 'daves' as I wrote
a scathing reply to some guy called 'scotticus' don't know who he is but if I ever meet him in Iteawon - I'm gonna feed him my used shit roll I have been saving up in the bin next to my toilet/shower for the occasion - I will do it with a smile on my face - anyway - I went back onto google and typed in 'chinese porn' in the search engine - as I was about to press
the 'i'm feeling lucky' button - Mrs Park comes over to my desk with a menu in Korean
'Wichwarrrd - what would you like for lunchee?'
'Hmmm - I would like erm - a cheeseburger - and'
'Ah no - Korean restaraunt see'
'Oh no! Not the same old shit again' I smiled at her from my desk.
'?'
'Oh sorry - erm yummy - er omurice then'
Winter break - another day in the office, another day doing squat, another day eating the same meal with different people except the vice principal is always present. I look around as Mrs Park goes back to her desk and rings in everyones order - I look behind me even though it is just a wall and I press the 'I'm feeling lucky' button.
The food arrives 20 minutes later - As the teachers are sorting out who is eating what - I don't see any omurice - I see some noodles in red liquid that is placed in front of me.
'Whats this?' Said I
'Ah, vice principal picked this for you - it is his favourite meal' said Mrs Park - opposite me was the Vice principal with a plate full of mandu and soy sauce.
'Tw@t - you *beep*, you confucian tw@t, tw@t,tw@t,tw@t' said my brain but the words 'oh thank you vice principal' are what came out of my mouth - followed by a small bow.
Mr Kim - not only smells like a pig 30 days of the year but eats like a pig too. I am sat next to him and my nice lacoste shirt is getting pebbledashed with red paste sauce as Mr Kim is talking to the vice principal and eating at the same time.
'Are you enjoying your meal Mr Kim?'
Mr Kim never replies to me directly but usually says something to the Vice Principal and is followed by racuous laughter - this time he points to my dish and makes an impression with his face of sucking his cheeks in and does a limp wristed motion which gets a laugh from everybody around the table - including my co teacher Mrs Park.
Why does South Korea have its only border with the most hostile country on earth - how great it would be now to punch Mr Kim in the mouth
and be over the border of a more friendly nation within the hour - instead I decided to fight Mr Kim with words he won't understand.
'Mr Kim - eating with my mouth closed is good manners - you are a complete and utter ingrate'
'Pawdon Wichwarrd' said Mrs Park - ready to translate anything I say to her pals in the staffroom - pity you can't do this with a class of 40 brats you useless bint!
'Ah - I said - erm Mr Kim is great' with my falsest smile.
Mrs Park translated my comment for Mr Kims benefit and he smiled at me
like I was his best mate - he slapped me on my back and now I need a hosepipe to wash my back for when I get home.
I took two gulps of the noodles in red hot paste and said 'oooooooooh too spicy' which produced more laughter from the teachers round the table and I excused myself to go back to my desk.
I went on to 'thetend.com' and decided to watch a amateur video called
'Chinese secertary and boss' I plugged my headphones into the computer and put them on my head - a bit of porn in the afternoon makes the hunger go away.
As I clicked onto the film and started to watch the film of the secetary getting drilled off her boss. A suprise to see Mrs Park loom over me - she catches the oriental couple on screen in flagrante delecito and looks shocked - she drops the coffee mix in a paper cup to the floor - her reaction triggered off a reaction of my own - my head jerked back and my headphones came out of the computer and the sounds of a young chinese woman coming to orgasm filled the staffroom
HEEEEEEEEEEEEHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I looked up in horror at the shocked faces of the other three staff members - except for one - Mrs Kim had a devilish grin on his face - pleased to see that the waygook is nothing more than a fellow ne'er do well after all. |

Wow you possibly have the most irritating VP ever.
My VP allows me to do anything, listen music, watch you tube, hell I almost popped in King of Fighters 98 into the PC and started playing...
I don't see WHY he won't let you do anything but "work".
I run out of work often and people are understanding.
Sounds like you need to be passive agressive about this like someone said.
Do some really hard tai chi breathing excericises and start chanting mantras. You could do some some dynamic tension at your desk. Pretend like you're some kind of hippie and don't act overtly annoying but more like this a new thing you are into. It would be entertaining enough for you to watch his face. |

Bring in books and say you're "reviewing English language materials." Ditto for movie watching.
I hate desk warming. I'd rather be swamped...
Well... provided I could still leave at the regular hour. Thank gods my school is being cool about winter vacation.
Also agree about engaging the stubborn VP in a discussion of Korean culture. Especially if you genuinely have interest in it. It could totally change your relationship with him around. |
