I've checked on sites like KEB Bank and Chosun Ilbo, which reported the won at around 1345, but sites like xe.com and Bloomberg have the won at 1259. I thought I might send a little bit of money home on Friday morning if it's around 1260

Those rates that you posted are all different.

The South Korean won rose 0.3 percent against the dollar Tuesday to 1,259.50, but finished the year down 25.7 percent for the South Korean currency's first annual decline since 2003. The drop in 2008 was the won's biggest since it fell 50.2 percent in 1997.

Exactly.
They were gathered at about the same time from three different sites and are all different.

So, what did the won close at today?

I moved a chunk of cash today at 1271 to the US dollar.
It's coming back up/down folks...slowly but surely.

Will what's-his-face's prediction of 1000won to dollar by June 2009 come true? It's certainly looking that way.

Dec. 29 (Bloomberg) -- South Koreas won rose to a seven- week high on speculation the central bank is buying the currency, Asias worst performer of 2008, to help bolster corporate and bank balance sheets before the year ends.

My Korean banker told me the same yesterday. He also speculated that after the new year the won would take a big decline because the government would stop caring about end-year performance records.

I've never really bought in to speculation of money though... (pun intended)
