Hi,
looking to take a Mekong Delta boat tour in Vietnam. The 2-day, 1-night one seems to fit our schedule best, but a 1-day one would be okay, too. Those who have done it, did you book it online in advance or just do it in person when you get there? I assume there are a lot of companies operating tours, any recommendations? Online they're varying greatly in price---probably more luxury tours, I guess---and I don't feel comfortable walking bringing out this much cash in front of a horde of Vietnamese salespeople.
edit: ah, okay, i guess when they say $XXX for one person it's assumed you're the only person on the boat . . . divide that by the number of people and it's much cheaper. That's a relief. |

I would recommend just showing up and booking it in person.
There are loads of travel agencies in the backpacker area of HCM city offering similar tours of the Mekong delta.
Try to go for 2 days/1 night if you can as the tour was really great and really cheap, too. |

yeah I booked the night before went the next day no problem; I went on a 1 day and it was awesome, I totally recommend it. I had to leave the next nite or I would have done a longer one.
there's one to Cambodia I've heard is great, maybe 3 days or so?
don't know what you're referring to about cost - you actually go on several different boats including one part where everyone gets out and is paddled around in a small boat - it shouldn't really matter how many people there are as far as cost is concerned - if someone is telling you that don't do it.
also booking online you might pay more - go in person and check it out for yourself - they are thinking you don't know the prices so they will charge you whatever that's why you see so much difference. |
