American society may be divided along many lines, but I suspect we'd come together pretty quickly in the face of an outside threat.

A recent example of this would be 9/12 and for a while after. If a civil war were to happen, it would be more likely that it would be between political factions fighting over control of the whole place, not one section trying to leave the union. Anyway, mises is right about the projection aspect of this guy's idea.

If the US has to be carved up you can bet I'm still rooting for the Celtics. Evil or Very Mad Yeaahhhh.....

(I think the present roster has at least one more NBA championship in 'em.)

And I (if I do say so myself) have just now made a good point. We are tied together as a nation in myriad ways. Sports is one example.

I think Canada would like to have Alaska if something were to happen with the general stability of the United States of America. I think if it suddenly went up for auction we would try very hard to get it to become part of Canada. Although I think Americans are too "patriotic" and hung up on America to let it fall apart.

Even if that were the case, what is wrong with that?

Nothing is wrong with that. It's a good thing to want your country to stay intact. Are you saying that it's not the case?

8. Legalize pot.

It's not national, but there are pockets all over the place.

Ann Arbor, MI...you can smoke in the streets...and particularly at Hash Bash held each year with live music through the streets. The fine has always been $5 for anything under 2 ounces in your possession.

It isn't about patriotism.

There is literally NO country in the world that just decides to 'break up' and let neighboring countries take over it's territories.

Yeah I think a lot of Americans would go to war to keep the 50 intact. Its a little more immediately relevant to us than Iraq or even Afghanistan.

Not that I think a break-up is even in the works. Projection is right.

Its a recession not a civil war.

Sharkey's perception is accurate. It was a Republican plot to infilterate the Russian Education system to influence the Russian academia world...so that an article would be written on it....later posted on Dave's ESL Board...so random ESL teachers in Korea might make comments about it...and when you go back, the Patriot Act will arrest you.

Ahmm..yeah.

No offense to the sane Canadians on this board, but now is not the time for Canadian nationalists to get smug about their country's stability vis-a-vis the USA.

i said nothing about the instability of USA, because i dont think it is unstable at all.... some of the people on this board are going bananas though. Im with you Kuros, i dont think its going to break up and i dont want it to break up..

and you should know that canada has always been more stable.. not that it matters or anything, cause it doesnt... but if youre going to put words into my mouth, then hey
