I just found a great substitute for Miracle Whip. Look in the mayonnaise section for a bottle with a picture of coleslaw on the front. It's from Otogi. This tastes almost like MW. Made up some tuna salad....GREAT!!

Regular mayo beats Miracle Whip any day, IMO.

I know. There are the ones who love it and the ones who hate it. If you hate it, you don't have to buy it.

Getting western-type things in Korea is always a challenge. That's why I posted.

This could be the news of the decade Exclamation Thanks, ajumma. I've said since I came here that the sign of a truly civilized country was the availability of Miracle Whip on the shelves of every convenience store.

Miracle Whip is crap, absolute Crap. Kraft Mayo fares better but for me it's either homemade or Hellmann's, or the highway.

When in Korea I was amazed at just how CRAPPY all the Western style salad dressings were. No, that's hyperbole; I wasn't amazed at all knowing that Koreans screw up every Western food they touch.

Assah!

I actually had Miracle Whip sent to me for the sole purpose of making tuna salad.

I prefer regular mayo for just about everything else, but for tuna, it starts and ends with the tangy zip of Miracle Whip.

I agree. Miracle Whip rules for tuna sandwiches...but oddly enough, not for anything else. The Korean substitute is a little more liquidy than regular MW, but it does the job!

It's also quite tasty in potato salad. On ham & cheese sandwiches. Or, when you are 8 years old, on Miracle Whip sandwiches. Laughing

Great tip, thanks.

To ManintheMiddle: Your username is crap, absolute crap.

To Reesedog: Regular dogs beet Reesedogs any day.

Yeah, I guess I could have just kept my mouth shut, but, you know, it's fun to rain on other people's parades, isn't it?

OP:

Ya wanna really good tuna salad recipe, try this on for size:

-1 can white meat tuna, preferably not Korean, if you can find it, drained
-a few dollops of HELLMANS mayo (or substitute KRAFT)
-a third a cup of finely chopped spring onions
-a third a cup of chopped apple (not Korean, if you can fine it--Fuji)
-a squirt of olive oil (Italian, if you can find it)
-salt and pepper to taste

Mash the tuna or chop finely with a cleaver on a cutting board.
Put in a metal mixing bowl and add other ingredients.
Hand mix well
Throw away any Miracle Whip lurking around, or feed to the neighbor's yippy little dog, preferably after it's sat out in the sunlit balcony awhile.

I don't associate with people who like Miracle Whip, but I will make exceptions for those who shove it up their ... oh, sorry, that's not nice.

Seriously, though, just take some mayo and throw some sugar in it. What's the difference?

There are some real mayo snobs around. It's OK with me if you like tasteless Hellman's, but don't dis the real stuff--Miracle Whip! Laughing If you want bland, welcome to it. I prefer some pizzazz in my food, thank you.

I can't say I'm surprised at ManintheMiddle, since he is, well, a man (that's seriously overstating it) in the middle...mundane, medium, middling, but I am surprised at daskalos. (surprised = disappointed)

Excuse me? Isn't it vinegar (or lemon)?

Ah me. There is no explaining bad taste in other people.
