Constipation is a terrible experience that most of us have at least once in our life. According to a survey of 1,060 Seoul citizens by professor Kang Dae-hee at Seoul National University, about 10 percent of them were currently suffering from constipation. The rate goes higher among college students, stressed out by the competitive job market. Professor Lee O-young of Hanyang University Medical Center reported that 27.2 percent of college students were suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), which often occurs as constipation or alternation of constipation and diarrhea.

One incorrect myth about constipation is that people should have a bowel movement every day. However, you may be diagnosed as normal with only three visits to the bathroom a week.

"That's why we should take enough fiber in our diet. It absorbs water and grows ten times its original size, without being absorbed in small intestines like nutrients," explained Dr. Yoon Jin-seok. "Koreans tend to get most of their fiber from kimchi," he said, "but kimchi fiber does not absorb much water. Rather, fruits, whole grains and other vegetables give good fiber."

Some people have a "solid dump." Sometimes it may be too solid.

Terrible? Really? I'll give you "uncomfortable"; but terrible? No way.

Having your arm torn off by a metal press is terrible, I would guess. Being blocked up (and, boy, do I have experience in that field) is only a few degrees higher than "annoying".

It gives me more time to read my magazines while I'm on the potty.

I'm a big fan of reading-on-the-loo... :)

I'm seriously missing my installments of MOTOR and National Geographic (subscriptions are great). I've resorted to such drivel as "The Economist" which I picked up @ COEX mall.

:)

jae.

The stress of this place is getting to me... I've only been sitting down to do my business once every third or fourth day... I don't feel stopped up, just not feeling the urge to even take a seat and give it a go.

Is this the thread where the benefits of corn on the pizzas would be appropriate?

You could always go to one of those 'legit' massage shops which offer a "colon cleansing".

I was going to buy a gift-certificate for a gal for Christmas, and saw that on the list. I was curious to learn (but too embarrased to ask) what it was, so I looked it up on the net.

No thanks!

Never a problem for the ol' Hwaj-Aj.

I'm full of *beep*, and Dave's is the perfect toilet in which to dump the ballast.

I guess that makes all of you my very own personal bog-monkeys.

If you drink 6 or more Grandes at starbucks for 2 days in a row, you'll end up with liquid poo.
