Hi guys,
I need your help. I am looking for a cool RPG to play (not oblivion). This is what I like:
Turn-based attacks
Magic
Armor,etc.
Linear storyline with a few sidequests (not like 200 sidequests).
Any suggestions? I am looking for the PC platform. |

Well I am a huge fan of Baldur's Gate, particularly Icewind Dale. However you might not like the old style graphics. In which case, I would suggest Neverwinter Nights, made by the same compnay I believe. You might want to go with Neverwinter nights 2, however it is not turn-based.
Final Fantasy XII is also a great game. It is turn-based though you program your characters to act prior to battle and then pause to change your attack strategy. It is a great game.
To be honest, I don't know of any recently released turn-based RPGs out for the PC. |

Yeah, I loved M&M 6.
Kings Bounty is a fun strategy RPG similar to the HOMM games.
Mass Effect isn't fantasy, and blends realtime and turnbased combat, but it's the best RPG I played this year. |

cl, just curious...Why do you spend gobs and gobs of money on a computer to play turn-based games when a 5 year-old computer would manage? |

Okay....The games I like to play are FPS games. For those games, I need a good PC. I would love to buy newer RPG games, but I don't like any out. I do have FFXII and I do play it on PS2. But, considering I have a monster PC now, I want to find a good RPG for the comp. |

I know it doesn't fulfill all of your wishlist, but FALLOUT 3 has been great and offers a lot of eye-candy.
It can be kind of turn-based...using the VATS system.
Great RPG and the main story line is pretty linear, if a tad short...but there's still teh 200 sidequests! |

If you haven't played Xcom:Enemy Unknown go back and download it now. There's a little Pocket PC version that plays in a little 240*320 window, so you can play while doing other things. The other games in the series are up and down, but that ones a classic.
I'm replaying it now. It hasn't aged at all. |

You've probably played it but if you haven't Never Winter Nights might be what you are looking for. |

I have to second Baldur's Gate I and II with the tutu expansion. The graphics aren't hot, but you'll get over that quickly. Imagine a game with over 300 hours of play time that takes you from a nobody all the way up to a god- with you doing all the work. Plus you get to be as evil or good as you want to be. Add in Npc conversations (that they initiate and are very real feeling), romances (yes, you can fall in love and get so on), ethical quandaries, and a ton of bad ass combat- Greatest game ever. Highly recommended. |
