I'm going on a visa run on Monday and I'm wondering where I should exchange my Korean money for Japanese money. At a bank here? At the airport here or in Japan?

Please advise.

The exchange rate really sucks right now for this deal.

There are very few banks in Japan that will exchange Japanese Yen for Korean Won. It's advisable to change your money before you go or take Dollars or Euros.

At the bank or at the airport currency exchange? I'll do it here and I might just change it to dollars or Euros like you said.

Airport currency exchange in Korea. The amount of money you're changing isn't something that you'll need to search for the best rate for, and changing twice isn't going to help you at all.

Hit KEB this morning if you can. The rate might be slightly better than the airport and you wont be rushed Monday morning.

Can you exchange money at any bank or do you have to have an account with the bank in order to exchange money? Do you need to show a passport or ARC?

Thanks,
Hoss

Just show up with won and they`ll change it. They might want to see your ARC if you dont have an account with them. Passport they need if you want more than a 1000 USD at least in my experience with some KEB branches

There are probably as many different answers to your questions as people who will respond. I tried to deposit USD 10,000 in cash to my account at a Nonghyup branch by my school. They wouldn't do it and told me to go to a different branch (close to my apartment). This branch wanted to see my passport (which I didn't have with me) but accepted my ARC instead. No problem.

Yeah, I had this problem. I exchanged won for yen at the airport, but later in Tokyo none of the local banks would take won (they'd take dollars/euros), so I had to go back to the airport. There may be some large bank that takes won, but I couldn't find it.

The airport is like 50 kilometers outside Tokyo so you should consider a trip out there is a pain (and whatever you do, don't take a taxi! take the train).

You mean the ajummas who have black bags and say "changee?". You never know when it comes to counterfeit bills. I stay clear of those ladies or the hole in the wall currency converters.
