Gotta phone call yesterday (on the holiday) to tell me that, in addition to my two weeks of camp for the students, there's some mysterious other class I have to teach. They forgot about this and are having trouble finding "The Document". They think they will be 3-4 hour classes for three days with English teachers, but they are not sure.
Don't worry though. Someone will come into the office on the seventh to try to find "The Document". Never mind the fact that this "someone" doesn't speak English, so I hope "The Document" is in English, or else I'm screwed AND that the mystery class starts on the 14th, so that gives me seven days (during camp) to create (maybe?) 12 hours of teaching material, once I found out how the class time is divided/class size.
Meanwhile, I'm sitting on my ass in a cold office this week with nothing to do.
Also, the mystery class is on camp days, so either the classes I've already finished planning will be cancelled, or I'll be putting in 8 hours of classroom time for three days in a row.
Yippy skippy.
I love my job. But honestly.

Why don't you make it your mission to figure out how to turn on the heat? |

OP, all your seat-warming time is gonna slow to a crawl if you're not comfortable. talk to the admin girls (or gesture wildly) about turning on the heat in your office.
i wouldn't worry about the teacher classes, most of the english teachers will just want conversation classes (find a book or a website with a short bit of reading on a topic with some discussion questions) |

Well, I'm glad someone's amused.
On top of this, I'm now being asked (in the eleventh hour) very insistently by my coteacher if I "have any idea you think to delay classes students?" because "you have to tell students before if you change schedule because teacher's classes. You know you have to. So about delay, what you think?"
Despite the fact that I've asked three times (in this conversation):
A. What the camp schedule is (it starts Monday and I still don't know)
B. What time she thinks the teachers' classes might be
C. What my "delay" options actually are
I need at least two thirds of that information before I can answer the question she's (at this point) shouting in my face.
Urgh.
Honestly. I really do love my job.

Gombae! Bravo!
Here's to self-medication. I think your co-teacher would drive a SDA minister to drink! |

Yeah. The thing is, I'm down with the fact that we've gotta work through this translation/language barrier thing slowly. I don't know how any of us couldn't be used to that by now. But it's her looking at me like I'm a f*cking idiot in the meantime, while she's the one who likes to ask questions without giving any information, that drives me insane.
I actually couldn't manage to fully mask my irritation today, for the first time. She didn't apologize, exactly, but said she was embarrassed to have to put this on me at the last minute, and that it wasn't her fault. So that's something, at least. But only after she realized she still hadn't even given me the schedule for the camp that starts Monday.
Anyway, I'm drunk now and not thinking about this anymore until Monday. Gombae!

Here's the kicker -- she's not even supposed to know I have a phone. I've gone out of my way to conceal this fact, but another coteacher of mine, who I'm somewhat social with outside of school, must have given her my number. C*ck. He's on my sh*tlist now, big time.
Plus, I suspected it would be something of the I-probably-should've-known-whatever-this-is-a-month-ago variety. Better to just face the situation, head on. I guess.

Yeah, I don't know what the hell is going on. All I know is, I'm not having camps eat into a third week (which is supposed to be part of my annual vacation). I'd rather take on the 8 teaching hours a day and have a basis to make the overtime pay argument, since so far I'm not getting any at all for these camps. It's peanuts, but it'll make me feel a little bit better about all the extra lesson planning time. This camp has eaten my life this month.... |

one of the biggest flaws of korean teachers...
they assume if they know something somehow that you telepathically are informed as well. even if they dont tell you, show you the document, or use any baody language, somehow, you should know it too.
maybe we dont eat enough kimchi and have reduced telepathic abilities... |

Damn... I can relate to that! If I didn't know better, I'd think Ks are psychic because they seem to assume I am. The secret to dealing with the total lack of foresight/planning/communication/notice is to turn it into an opportunity to do less. |

At least we know we're not alone in this.
And I really do think a big part of it is, we all assume things here are like they are back home, with a set schedule at the beginning of the year (or at least the beginning of the month?), but it seems like almost everything is winged at the last minute. So while it would be nice if, once something is finally decided, we would be informed of it, a big part of the problem is a total lack of organization. Which drives me completely up the wall. But meh. Whatcha gonna do. |

I thought it was the teenager-like fear of failure and they just decide not to tell you and hope for the best.
Face saving retards tend to do that a lot of the time. |
