I just posted up a nice presentation and commentary on my blog about the Buzz Words of 2008. The one that drives me bananas is "in the tank" a kind of replacement for "on the take".... also pregorexia (being thin while pregnant)
You can see the Buzzwords HERE.

Shakespeare in Othello |
a)I didn't know it was the Bard of Avon
b) I still think it is gross.
c) I think Shakespeare could have used some mental help. Titus A. would give Tarentino a stiff one. |

| Not sure if this qualifies as a euphemism, but I got tired of "jumped the shark" after hearing it just once. I've never heard a lamer attempt to sound hip. For the while there, it seemed like people were saying every TV show had "jumped the shark" just because they wanted so badly to use that ridiculous phrase. |
You do know the origin of the phrase, don't you? |
Yup. So? |

I think it's a very apt phrase. |

Rabelais used a very similar phrase about 70 years prior, and after reading snippets of Gargantua and Pantagruel, it's likely the tamest image in it. |

Happy Days. In a notoriously bad, late season episode the Fonz literally jumps a shark on waterskis. |

This is one of the reasons why it is a bad phrase. The Fonz "jumping the shark" is nothing like Napolean "meeting his Waterloo" or Julius Caesar "crossing the Rubicon." Those were events people should know about. A shark-jumping episode from a mediocre sit-som should hardly be common knowledge. |

OMG! It actually came from Happy Days? I allways hated that "Jumped the Shark" thing. God how weak. What's next? Let's make some new obscure trendy bullshit phrase.
Could be fun.

I find it to be quite an apt expression. It was popularised by either South Park or Family Guy. I forget which one. I guess you're just not up with what the hip kids are saying these days, Grandad |
