I was going the private school route and now am doing public school instead. I have all my paperwork ready to send over (since I now have a job offer) but I didn't know about the proof of residency form I needed to get from the IRS until now, since, as I said, I was looking at private schools and it didn't apply to me. According to the website of the IRS, it will take anywhere from 30-45 days to get it...and I don't have that kind of time. I was under the impression that it's optional...so if I sent in my paperwork for my visa without it, would I be able to just bring it with me to Korea once I do get the form, and go to the nearest tax office and get it straightened out there? |

The proof of residency is not necessary for your visa. You can just give that to your public school whenever it arrives. |

get the form ASAP, nonetheless.
some school districts are real sticklers. like, say, Uljin. if you leave after your fulfillment of a one year contract instead of signing on for another year, they're retroactively tax you if you didn't hand in that document before the first paycheck. (even if you arrive 5 days before the first paycheck.) |
