A question for those teachers who are leaving Korea on a one way ticket.

If you are leaving and you are employed in Jeollonamdo, who is buying your ticket?

Are you buying it and then being reimbursed?

Is the school buying it and then giving it to you?

I am curious as I am being told that I will have to buy the ticket and then they will reimburse me for the price or maybe a percentage of the price

It says in the contract that they will buy me a ticket home, but its not clear on whether thats a reimbursed ticket or not.

They say it depends on what the other schools are doing and I just wish to know whether its usual for teachers to have to buy thier ticket and then be reimbursed. That way I will know whether this is a fight worth fighting or if there is some one with enough clout who can advise my school who I can contact.

Most of the problems seem due to ignorance and the school being given different advice from different people. I just need to know where I should draw my lines of argunments.

Shocked Anything less than 100% is unacceptable.

They have three options:
1. Buy you paper/e-tickets and give them to you.
2. Reimburse you.
3. Use the GTR process.

What if an expat decides to say in korea , and works for a hogwon or a different public school.
Will that person get cash for the ticket?

Maybe... it depends on a multitude of variables. Rolling Eyes

Thanks for that information Cruise.

It seems to be based on ignorance. I really think you can see the real problems of the education office in this area when you have problems.

It seems the current influx of teachers into the public school system has really not been well thought out and a set program set up for when they leave.

Are you a public school teacher?

I am. I paid my way over here and was reimbursed about a month later. They paid my way back up front. They tried to pull that percentage crap, saying that they only had XXX won for a flight home, but they don't realize how hard it is to find flights for a reasonable price to anywhere but California or New York. They tried to give me the run around, but it was mostly based on ignorance . . . my handlers called to the local education office and the person on the other end of the line just made shit up. Another phone call got different answers. Finally, they agreed that they had to pay the whole thing up front.

In my time in K-land (all public) I've had tickets bought for me, I've been reimbursed (100% of ticket purchase price) and I've used the GTR process... no problems.

If your CT tells you they will not reimburse 100% of the ticket purchase price someone is corrupt and someone is 'pocketing' your money.

The GTR process is by far the most convenient. However, Korean Air or Asiana must be the main carrier on the international leg.
