My coworker has a Toshiba Satellite A40 for sale.

She's had a bluescreen problem with it lately, so I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled systems discs for her. It seems to be working now. I've installed AVG Free Anti-Virus on it.

CPU: Mobile Pentium 4 2.4 ghz
Ram 1 gig
The monitor seems to have a native resolution of 1024x768. It's plenty fast for any basic task. I haven't timed the battery, but I doubt it'd get more than 1/2 hour on a charge.

She wants to buy a new computer, so she is selling this off. It has an XP license on the bottom, and comes with the original system disc.

Price: 200,000 or best offer.

I won't be back to Korea until the 18th, if it's still available then let me know (assuming you're in the Seoul area).

Update:

I got another blue-screen, had to reload everything again, and ran some diagnostics. Windows says the Hard Disk needs replacing, or it will critically fail. I now know what's been causing the blue-screen.

So....

If you want this computer for 150,000 as-is, it's yours. You'd just need to put a new hard drive (or a used one) in it. If you have a used standard-sized notebook HDD laying around, you could format it and use it in this computer, and get a pretty quick computer (2.4 ghz) for a song.

If nobody wants it, I'll probably put a drive in it myself and sell it later.

I have a spare laptop with a bum screen,

BUT, a HDD failure will not cause your BSD problem.

Did you do a full reformat -deep format- erasing everything?

damn it,
I was ready to grab it today.

It's been awhile since I messed with hardware.... I'll crack my Dell. What are the specs on your HDD? If it's just a swap out, I'll still take it.

I have to do research....

Hey, how are you sure this time it is confirmed harddisk problem? If there is a fault in motherboard then it can fail to properly communicate/detect harddrive and tell you to replace it.

I've seen blue-screens caused by HDD's before.

A bad hard disk can certainly cause blue-screens, and the warning signs have all been hard-drive related:

Generally, I expected to get some comments from the "make it sound bad, and hope to buy it for next to free so I can fix it and sell it for a profit" crowd.

As I stated -- anyone who wants it for 150,000 gets it. Otherwise, I'll put a different HDD in it and see how it holds up for a week. If it's fine, then I'll sell it. The thing ran for 5 days straight with no issues, then stopped. If it were a mainboard going bad, it likely wouldn't have made it that long without the problem.

Windows does detect the HDD. The blue-screen issues all pointed to a bad hard-drive. Chkdsk also verifies the same.

So basically, I'm on the up-and-up, I'm being honest about what I'm finding, the price is right, so either buy it or STFU.

I'll buy it today.

It somes with an English XP installation disk (An XP installation Disk- not a Toshiba disk with XP back-up on it?)

and all the Toshiba driver disks, right?

Let me know the HDD specs so I can make sure my Dell's HDD will fit.

I'm looking for my tiny geeky screwdrivers now.......

The Toshiba disc has XP on it, and is OEM just for that Toshiba computer. That's what it is... you can't use it on another computer. All drivers are on that disc, too.
