So, lets say the Hogwan I work for goes under. How hard will it be to not only find a new job, but what will the requirements be in terms of paperwork? Plus, I need to be in NYC on october 30th for a family trip that was planned before I even got to Korea....so thats another issue. WIll schools do shorter contracts?

You will have no trouble finding a new job. The trick is finding a good one. But, you are here now, and you can easily change to a new school if your old school is actually going under. You'll need to get busy looking right away, and don't take advice from the crazy trolls on Dave's.

Many schools will only hire you for a year, but you should be able to find a 9 month contract and get a cash payment for your arrival airfare at 6 months and pro-rated payments for return airfare and severance when you complete the 9 month contract, if you find a good hogwan. It's not likely that a public school will give you that of course.
