Hello,
I was wondering if anyone DIDN'T get any vaccination or immunization shots before moving to Korea? I plan on getting the tetanus and MMR. I also want the hepatitis shot but as I understand, it is a series of 3 shots over a couple month time span. Since I have less than a month before I leave, I was wondering if I could get the !st shot here in the States and get the other 2 in Korea?? Or can I wait and get them all iin Korea? Any thoughts? I welcome your advice....

Korea is a lot more crowded than north america, people live in close proximity because they have to. You are probably going to get a cold/flu upon arrival, due the a suppressed immune system from your disrupted acadian rythyms (jetlag) and introduction to different germs. Hepatitus A and B are easily preventable, so why take the chance? It is unreasonable (and uneconomical) to think that, with all the side dishes put out in restaurants, some things that look like they weren't touched get reused. You will be sharing bowls of food and glasses of soju with complete strangers whether you like it or not.

I'm not trying to scare you, look in the US newspapers about Demi Moore and Aston Kutchner having to get Hep A shots because a bartender came up positive, this can happen anywhere. The difference is that you cannot read the newspaper in Korea to know the restaurant you were at had an outbreak. Get your first shots and finish them up over here. You will have health insurance. I got my shots at the county health clinic ( 1st Hep A/B, tetnus, flu, typhoid) for $185. I felt really ripped off when I found out I could of got them all here for under $30, but, lesson learned.

Twinrix needs a 6 month booster to finish it off after the first two over a month.

Also need to get checked that the Twinrix worked. I've had it twice and it hasnn't worked - all three shots.

Also had separate Heb A/B shots and again they haven't worked - I'm one of the 5% that they don't work on. *beep* knows why.

How many of you have gotten vaccinated for Hep A and B while in Korea?? I've just read about the risk for both in the country, and am now concerned because I would not be able to finish the series of shots here in the states. I also have no insurance here and cannot afford the $100 per shot!!!

hi, you can get your first shot for hepatitis in the states, and get the next 2 in korea.(thats what i did) just make a note of the date that you get your first shot becos you have to get the 2nd within a certain time limit, each shot costs around 30 000 won and any doctor will should be able to assist. korea is a high risk country, its a must!!!!
