Hi

Anyone know how to fix this. I have XP and have installed East Asian Language Pack. I downloaded Quantum of Solace (Bond Movie) and got the subtitle file from gom.tv. However the subtitles will only display as boxes..It's as if I never bothered to install the language pack

Can you help?

Do you have a korean font available? I had to set my font as batang (it was a long time ago, so I don't remember the details, sorry).

I got an idea how to fix this if he doesn't want to change his whole system encoding to Korean.. it's not hard if you're computer literate and shouldn't take more than a minute.

Open the subtitle file in your web browser if possible, if not change the format of that file to .txt and open it in your browser.

If it's still boxes and gibberish, change the endcoding in your browser to Korean.

Now you should be able to read all the text, copy the text from your browser. Open the subtitle file in a text editor, paste over the gibberish text in the real subtitle file and save. You can change the file back to it's original format or if you use gom player just open the text file manually.

Or perhaps try just using gom player in the first place and it would work.

I run into this all the time when I try to play subtitles for movies in either VLC player or windows media player. Just use GOM player and you will not have any problems.

Media Player Classic (with K Lite Codec Pack) also works quite well; never had a problem.

I use the excellent freeware app KMplayer for movies. You can view Korean subs without having to mess around with the non-unicode settings.

Withnail, I would love to see a photoshopped version of your avatar - a pleasant blend of the 'Platoon' cover and the football player being shot in the back. He deserves it.

Google gom player subtitles in Korean, or something...I think that's what I did. I remember some clear instructions were given...but I still do not remember what they were

I was having the same problem as you were - just boxes coming up but punctuation marks (?) were visible as well as numbers.

I would recommend that you also download gomtv if you don't already - http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_Introduction.html

Download the Gom media player and Gom encoder. Yes, it is Korean software but this site downloads the English version.

Now to solve your problem it is this easy. Open the gom player. At the bottom of the window you will see the word 'preferences' (it is right at the bottom in the middle of the gom player window). Click on this and another window will open up.

On the left hand side of the window you will see a menu = General; Playback; Subtitle; Video; etc. Click on 'Subtitle'.

Now click on the 'Subtitle' Tab at the top of the page (it will be the first tab to choose - Subtitle; Messages; Subtitle Directory; Others.

Move your mouse down to Subtitle Font and change the font style to Batang.

That should solve your problem (I had the same issue last night and this fixed it for me). You shouldn't need to go into the whole encoding thing or downloading language pack.

BTW, I used programs like realplayer and windows media player. Have started using the GOM player and it is so much better regarding different encoding issues.
