I picked up the book "Teaching English to Children in Asia" by David Paul a few weeks ago. I have to recommend it to anyone who feels a little lost when teaching kids. I think even the veterans could benefit from it.

Basically it teaches you how to integrate games into the lessons, which is the key to overcoming the chronic misbehaving that Korean kids are so famous for. The games work really well and everything in the book is really relevant to our situation.

It's tough being dropped into this job, still jet lagged and having no experience teaching children, armed with little but a book and a whiteboard marker. I've only been at it for four months but I feel like I'm becoming a better teacher because this book was a good substitute for real training.

I read about that book here and I finally found it at Bandi & Lunis in COEX and it cost 14,000. It's awesome. I'm not big into education theory and I was surprised at how interesting & easy it was to use. I really wish I'd found this book 2 years ago! It's been really useful.

It's really useful for developing a child-centred approach where the students get interested in learning English for themselves, not because their mums, wonjongnim or I tell them to learn!

Since reading the book and trying to apply some of it in my classroom, I've had a much less stressful and much more fun time with the students and I've found that they've actually started speaking more English.

I second the recommendation.

It sounds excellent.

Can it be ordered over the web? I've tried a few sites I usually buy books off and non seem to have it.

Bandi & Lunis were sold out when I went in last week to try and find it, and the Kyobo bookstore in Gangnam doesn't seem to have it either.

I'm probably going to be going into Jongro this weekend so I'll get to the bookstores there - Kyobo and Yongpyoong bookstore.
Has anyone visited the store called English on the Jongro road? It's really good for English teaching materials, and might also be a potential place to pick up David Paul's book.
Apparently there's a branch of English in the Gangnam area but I don't know exactly where.

The book is nowhere on Amazon or the Barnes & Noble site. I found the publisher of the book, and even they are vague on how you can get your hands on it.
