(Perhaps this will only stroke his misanthropic ego, but here goes...)
Dear Mr Schertzer,
You are clearly a very unhappy and troubled man. You consistently manage to find the negative in everything you recount and repeatedly manage to become a victim of that which you dislike. You display a constant need to condemn and disapprove, and the only thing that appears to give you any gratification is a persecution complex.
While Korea is by no means a perfect place, many people living here very much enjoy their lives. This is true for many EFL teachers, myself included. In spite of the systemic difficulties we face in performing our jobs, we can take considerable joy in many things. One such thing is the camaraderie of our peers, both foreign and Korean. Over the years I have learned a wealth of things from talking to other teachers and pursuing professional development, particularly at the many conferences and workshops Korea has to offer EFL teachers.
In your case, your derision, dismissal, and condemnation of your peers and sense of self-righteousness are surpassed only by your utter absence of any constructive advice or contribution to your field of work. Despite ample opportunity to demonstrate your supposed wisdom, never once have you provided anything in the way of teaching resources or contributions to professional development groups of which I am aware. Why is this? Are you afraid of having your skills, or lack thereof, put under scrutiny? Are you afraid that you�ve acted like such an unsociable fool that you couldn�t face engaging in public discourse?
Since you find yourself surrounded by so many intolerable people and situations, and find yourself so frequently emotionally troubled, in Korea, why do you continue to work here as an EFL teacher? Are you no more capable of doing anything else than the same 'flawed' individuals you condemn for resorting to TEFL? Are you jealous that people with less experience than you are having a far better time and reaping more rewards?
Whether you are in need of psychological or psychiatric help, or whether you merely feel an irrational need to carry on in a field you despise, one thing is clear. The longer you persist in condemning others in our community wherever you can while providing no useful knowledge, the more insincere and self-loathing your criticisms will appear. And your legacy will be that of one of the least helpful people our community has ever encountered. Please do yourself and us a favour and find a different country in which to make a clean start. |

I don't see the irony. What Schertzer does is much more ridiculous than our random bitching on this site because he takes it too far: publishing it, advertising his rants, etc. |
