I ran away from Korea. Now I want to find out if my visa was cancelled. I do not want to talk to my ex-boss very much and ask him. What's the easiest way to find out about this?

It's vey very easy...contact or call korean immigration or visit the embassy and give them your passport number or your old alien registration number.
That is the only way to find out.

Thanks a lot for the info.

I just found out that my visa was not cancelled.

The woman at the consolate told me that this does not matter though. She said that if I apply at another job and get hired, they will just cancel my visa themselves. She said that I don't even need to worry about it.

Is this true?

So, if I apply for a new job, will my old visa get cancelled automatically? Was she correct?

Or, do I have to contact my ex-boss, who probably hates me, and ask for him to do it?

I'd call another consulate and get a second opinion. If your boss paid for your flight, you may owe him something, depending on how long you were at this job. There's probably some sort of machinery in place to protect employers from air-fare losses. That would take the form of your ex-boss being able to prevent you from getting another E-2 unless you reimburse him. His stranglehold would last until your current E-2 dies.
