Which one do people generally prefer, and why? What are the features that make you choose one over the other?

the best part is there are about a billion games on ps2 compared to xboxs 4. Seriously x-box is the better machine, but the games are holding it back. If you want to play halo buy an xbox. But xbox doesnt have GTA baby......
Also I like to be able to buy my games on the blackmarket Twisted Evil xbox games are less likely to be sold as copies than ps2.

besides gamecube is better than xbox....... go mario

there are lots more games now for the xbox. beyond developers owned by Sony, every game that comes out for the ps2 comes out for the xbox. and between the same game, the xbox is always the better quality.

You've been living in a cave I see.

As someone with a tiny bit of experience in the retail side of the gaming industry, I can safely assure you that you're mistaken.

It's also broadband ready, and XBox Live is the very best online game service I've ever seen, period. Nothing else touches it.

I personally think that the added hard drive, the slew of great games that have come out for it recently, and the fact that the PS2 is already looking long in the tooth steers me towards the XBox.

There's also the added fact that if you throw a $50 solderless mod chip in there you've got a pretty badass DivX/Emulator machine all ready to go with a hard drive that can store those movies/roms/mp3's, unlike the PS2. Much easier than slapping together a mini-ATX rig with TV out.

on a side note:

I bought my ps2 in Canada along with 2 games.

I have gotten bored of the games and recently bought a game here which didn't work because the games here are only made for korean machines.

now I don't know what to do. any suggestions?

yeah, you have to get a mod-chip installed. if you had a korean machine it'd probably be a little easier, but you should be able to get a hold of one for your machine in yongsan electronics market. there are a few threads in this forum that address this. do a search for "ps2"

I thought that you couldn't get a mod-chip installed in North American machines, only in Japanese ones.

Decide what games you want to play and pick the machine that has them.. keep in mind that PS2 has alot more variety of games to choose from.

History is littered with powerful games machines with cool add-ons & stuff.. but if they don't have a big library of big games they are screwed..

You can put a modchip in any PS2 system - Japanese, Korean, North American - what have you.

A buddy of mine modified his Xbox and now he has a library of some 40 movies which he has downloaded and can watch at the push of a button (or two). Super. Sweet. Not to mention the fact that he downloads most of his games for free and stores them on that wonderful hard drive. No. Discs.

The games may sukk, but the machine is brilliant.
