Does anyone else have just one class...that drives them insane...that can't seem to grasp the simplest of things after the longest time...that severely changes the direction of a relatively good day...that just stares mindlessly at you and says yes to aaaaaaaaaanything that comes out of your mouth.....that after a year or so stiiiiiiiiiiiill watches you like you're the newest clown in town...stiiiiiill doesn't grasp the concept of saying "I'm here" during register...etc etc ad infinitum?

I do hope so.

To make you feel less psychotic, I will respond. I have such a class. Several, in fact. I have worked hard at inspiring them and making the lessons appropriate for their levels, but to no avail.

I had one like that. I had some of the other ne'er-do-wells transferred into it, and some of the higher-level speakers transferred out, then requested the class twice a week and got it.

And I beat the christ out of them for a month.

Soon they understood that if they worked together, they could get more done.

Then they were a team, and the class is good.

I actually brace my balls every time I enter my hated class

I call it 2-11

The kids have no composure, and they are evil, every single one of them. Not a pure soul among them, boys girls, orcs, trolls, and wraiths.

Their level of English is AMAZING. You think this is a great thing, wow a class that actually understands me. No, I'd rather they speak Korean. All the English that comes out of their mouth is like "Faggot", "Idiots" "Ass".

I swear, it drives me up the wall. Worst part is, the Korean teacher that co-teaches it really has no balls. She couldn't discipline to save her life so I have had to resort to my own harsh rules.

The best thing I did was have two boys embrace each other for an entire class as punishment. I enjoyed it so much... i hate those damn kids. I would be glad to see fire and brimstone errupt the next time I enter to validate my suspicions they really are demon spawn.

Yes, that class sucks. It gives me a headache before I am even finished with role. It is guaranteed that I will have to hand out some sort of disciplinary measure to at least 2 students in every single class.

Just do what the Korean teachers do. Give them worksheets and text message at your desk. Start a stamp system and when they get 50 stamps give them a 5 cent pencil.

The last time I had that class I rained hellfire down on them. They were very surprised, cause usually I take the caring-and-sharing laid back approach, and I was stomping around and speaking VERY LOUDLY.

They were always bad and I really didn't mind so much because we were still making progress and I can be very very patient, but I had a horrible little beast transferred in (temporarily) and she messed up the whole dynamic I'd been working on. Pissed me off.

Nope. It's called 'those classes'.

I think it comes down to students being told what to do down to such simple things that they cannot figure out the obvious to save their lives sometimes.

Oh man don't get me started.

Yes, THAT class where one spoiled brat went crying to his mom that my x's (incorrect markings) on his homework were too big and should be smaller.

The WHOLE class had students and incidents like this-trivial crap that drove me insane.

It's best left in that dark corner of my memory where the "I can't deal with the illogical insanity of the class mentality" gets filed. It's there to stay. Please don't ask me to go there again.

Please Laughing Shocked

This is what I do with "those" classes.

1. Teach for about 5-10 minutes. The shorter, the better.
2. Give them really hard crosswords, word searches, etc. for the rest of class. (2 pages)
3. I prepare two other pages that involvesrewriting a dialogue or filling in the blanks from their books.

Rewards are offered for those who can finish four pages the fastest. Those who don't complete the first two pages get garbage duty.

They keep quiet and 99% of the kids actually finish the work for fear of the broom and dust bin.
