My friends and I want to go out this weekend but we don't want to go to Itaweon or Hongdae, I was thinking Hyewha because it's close but I don't know of any bars in that area. Can anyone suggest any cool bars or clubs to try?
Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've written quite a bit about Hyehwa before, but don't have time now. Search for threads using different terms like
"Hyehwa," "Daehangno," "Daehakno," or even "neighborhoods."

First, there is only 1 club in Hyehwa. It's called Bun-ker and it's new. Hyehwa is nice b/c it does not have clubs, it has tons of restaurants, bars, theaters and is a place for dates and groups of friends, not picking up partners.

For the classiest restaurants, hit the exit 1 and exit 2 side of Daehangno. There is a 1950's style American diner named "Platters," a Swiss fondue place (pricey) and a superb Italian and pizza restaurant called Di Matteo (pricey). Head to the university side (exit 4 and toward Sungkyunkwan University) for cheaper restaurants and bars, many down little alleys.

The best foreigner-friendly bar is Comfort Zone. Head toward SKKU and you will hit the 3 story Dunkin Donuts. CZ is behind the DD. The owner and many staff members speak English, and they have darts.

There used to be a nice jazz bar there, and I'm sure it is still there. I heard it was the biggest jazz club in Korea, but I'm not sure if that is true or not. Unfortunately, I don't know the name of the place, nor can I explain where it is. It's been a long time since I was in Heyhwa.

I was there at one of the exit numbers, around four hurs ago today,
unsure what I can say, some good shops, food plaices and
a movie theatre ( 8 screen, I think)

Bibbity is correct, he helped me out my similar thread while back. Platters is well worth a visit. A bit greasy and by no means a healthy meal, but bloody delicious. Tried the jalapeno Cheese Steak, Chili Fries, Choc Shake....and they were all top notch. Comfort Zone is pretty cool too.

Bibbity, is this Bunker club a really small dark underground place? I found myself in one recently, at the SKK Uni end of the pedestrian street. Seemed rubbish.

Some of my friends have started hanging out in Hyehwa lately, and also Waedae, which is a bit more north.

This is probably one of the jazz bars Bibbity was talking about. Probably one of the top 3 in Seoul. A good place, but if live music's playing, you'll feel kinda guilty just nursing a beer if there's a crowd.

Waedae is HUFS, or Hanguk University of Foreign Studies. There are some bars, like in front of any uni, but not enough to constantly 'hang out' there. Of course, all it takes is one good one.

That's my neighborhood!! It's awesome, but you're not going to find clubs, like someone said. What you will find are classy, reasonably-priced bars and really tasty restaurants.

My friends and I go there frequently. Try a place out. You can't go too wrong. If you've got time, see Evil Dead. It's a blast!

For clubs, an interesting place to try is Sinchon. They have fewer bars, but the dance floors are less crowded than at Hongday (with far less frequent cover charges) and if you're just interested in having a good time with friends, it's got some fun music and a nice scene in my opinion.

Red Lion is good - rustic, cozy, friendly, good munchies and beer Laughing

it's on the second floor - near the exit w/the escalator - look around you can't miss it - there's a red facade on the building as well.

There was a great italian restaurant (no ketchup to be found) across from the Starbucks but it didn't last long. I always wanted to take in a gag concert in Hyewha even though I wouldn't be able to understand the Korean.

I like a bar called 8 Pal. They serve up some 3$ Jack/cokes and have a wicked fish-tank behind the bar. There are 4 of them. 1,2, & 3 are out of exit 4 and 4 is down the street from KFC up on the 4th floor and it was too busy for us to sit down.
