Anybody know how long our criminal records check is good for at immi? I hear it's only three months. Even if you have been in Korea the whole time since your last check. But I don't know... Crying or Very sad

That's what I've heard, too. Considering that a Canadian federal RCMP check could take 2-6 months to arrive it's a pretty crap situation.

From the Immigration Website

Quote:
# Consulates located in Korea cannot issue proof of criminal records to individuals currently.
# Korean government requires a proof of criminal records issued by the relevant nations government for its citizens to use for any number of international activities, such as employment. It will accept records issued by the federal, provincial, state, local authorities.
※ The document is valid for six months form Criminal background Check issuing date. Please check the local government resources to find out how you can obtain one.

Find E-2, and you will find that quote.[/quote]

I think it's good for 6 months from the issue date until you give it to immigration. Once immigration has it, it's good forever unless some other requirements for the CRC have been implemented in the meantime.

Is that to say that once your CRC is in the system you no longer have to get a new one every time you change jobs? This would be cool.

Cool but I don't believe it and that's not what I've heard.

Nope, it's only good for six months period. As of now, EACH and EVERY time you apply, extend or resign your E-2 you need a new one if more than six months have elapsed.

They were supposed to have it on file...guess they decided it was too much work.

Do you have a source for that?

Read what ttompatz has to say about that...he usually gives spot on advice. He does say you don't need one for extensions...but some people were claiming in a different thread that they did....(then again it might have been specific to their situation.)

It's certainly not forever...if you left the country for a few years and then came back, you'd have to submit a new one.

As with all things in Korea, it probably depends on who you talk to. But I called Daegu immigration last week and they told me I wouldn't need a new CRC when changing jobs.

I didn't need one for my second year in a public school because I work for the education department. My friends work for the local city in their schools and need a new one every year.

I applied for my last visa a month ago, but the process was delayed because I needed to get a new CRC with a VSS. I had already submitted a CRC without VSS back in June for my last job. Anyway, I was told that if I had had a VSS on my last CRC that I wouldn't have needed another one.

That being said, it might depend on who you get. But if you haven't left the country, I'd go as far as saying I'd bet 100 bucks that you don't have to get a new one (of couse if the VSS, for Canadians, is on your current one).
