GEPIK seems to be referring teachers to recruiters and is less keen on pairing teachers and schools these days.
Also, many recruiters seem to be aimed towards teachers in their home countries coming to Korea for the first time. There are exceptions but the market seems to be geared towards finding new teachers instead of retaining teachers already here.
This trend seems to have happened somewhat recently and it is an interesting trend. |

That does seem to be the general attitude from SMOE, EPIK, and GEPIK.  |

| Using a recruiter in Korea is like downing several bottles of soju. Imagine what the hangover would feel like everyday for the next 364 days. Why torture yourself with the aftermath of a terrible decision? |

Not all recruiters are bad. It's actually a good way to find a job if you have the time to check them all out.
Weed out the bad.
But GEPIK and whatever... Working for public schools is just bad money and therefore a bad idea if you consider most things. |

They target the new and gullible people in their home countries and paint a rosy picture. Taking a job site unseen is just stupid but unfortunately is the only option for many people. I would never have come to work at my old school if I had seen it and the apartment first. They know first timers are less discerning which is exactly what they want. |

| recruiters are like car salesmen. they are good to get some basic info from, but you should do lots of shopping and your own homework as well. plus, remember, just because you talk to them doesnt mean you must take the job they offer. would you take one car from one salesman because he said it is the best fit for you? of course not. |

pretty much. the people who've worked in korea before know what questions to ask and are probably more demanding about what conditions they'll accept. they also are more familiar with the tricks and crap over here, so they might be regarded as jaded and not as good as the happily-oblivious foreigner they want to employ. |
