Korea has a lot of film festivals, but not that much interest in independent movies outside of that. The only independent movie house I know of has been playing Dirty Dancing nonstop for pretty well a year now, and just recently added a John Woo movie into the rotation.

So I guess Bit Torrents are going to be my best friend, huh?

Is it a decent John Woo movie at least?

It looks like they're showing A Better Tomorrow I and II. How are you at reading Korean subtitles?

I haven't watched Appaloosa yet, but it seems to have a good cast (Viggo Mortensen, Ed Harris, and Renee Zellweger ...)

The last western I saw was a good one: 3:10 to Yuma with probably an even better cast - including Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, and Peter Fonda ...

Not very good to non existent. Oh well. Maybe while I'm desk warming I'll get a chance to study up, except my damn school keeps adding fing englishee camp classes to my schedule without telling me.

The 3:10 to Yuma remake was decent, but man. The original is pretty awesome.

I think Ed Harris directed Appaloosa. Hope it's good.

The movie selection might not be the best, but one thing that really frustrated me was not knowing what movies were playing until visiting the theater or asking a Korean to help. To fix this I just completed a movie listing and times. It's not the best (yet) but come and see:

Korea Movies:

I tried to include as many cinemas and cities as possible.

If you do want to get out, or at least watch on a semi big screen, you can take a dvd to a dvd bang and watch it there. Not quite a cinematic experience but it does strike a balance between a good film and not on your computer.

Isu cinema usually has some good movies showing along with the same crappy stuff (The Day the Earth Stood Still, Tansporter 3) as all the other theaters. They usually have a different indie or foreign film showing each night of the week for one month and then they change them. I don't remember all the movies showing right now but I know Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Amelie are showing. Isu/Chonshin Uni. Station line 4, exit 13 walk straight cross a big intersection and its on your right.

The Seoul International Film Festival had some really good stuff (and most of it had English subtitles) last year so look for that in June.
