So, awhile back I read on Dave's some info about being able to turn in medical receipts for a tax return on them. I think this was mostly in regards to having a baby in Korea. For the life of me, I can't find any of those posts now through the search engine.

I have a few questions for those of you who have done it:

A) Did you have to file at the end of the year when most taxes are filed or after the baby was born?
B) Did this include receipts for ultrasounds, drs visits, etc. or just the delivery period?

We're expecting our baby next month, but I'm wondering if we should go ahead and file all the maternity expenses from fall/winter 2008, since our taxes just got filed. (Is it too late or too early??) It doesn't matter that my spouse and I are both foreigners, right?

Any info you experienced parents have would be great.

My wife and I had a son born here in 2007. I was told that I couldn't claim medical expenses for the baby on my taxes. However, the baby is covered under the mother's health insurance for the first few months, and then once you get the ARC for the baby, he/she will have their own coverage.

That said, you can claim dependants to get a tax break. I strongly suggest getting an accountant to do this for you. The year before I used the accountant, I had to pay an extra 1.5 mil for taxes. When I used the accountant, I paid him 200,000 won for his services, but he got me over 800,000 won back.

If you do it yourself, you won't know which corners you can cut.

Redeye- First off- Congratulations on your upcoming birth! All the best to you.

My husband and I, both foreigner, had a baby here this past May. I did include my prenatal medical receipts when my school filed my tax return last year.

I included all my receipts for ultrasounds, other tests, hospital visits, and pharmacy prescriptions.

So, I think you should be able to include all your receipts for 2008 and file the rest next year. Not 100% sure but I think it is worth trying to submit them.

Thanks!

Spoke with the boss yesterday--she already filed our taxes for us. Nice she took care of it, but guess we'll have to file all the receipts at the end of this year according to her. Hopefully we'll still get back on the 2008 stuff too. We'll see!
