Yeah. I've finally decided that my next large purchase will be a Mac notebook. Why? Because I am fed up with Windows. Firstly, my Dell computer was working fine until I installed the 3rd service pack. The first time I tried to install the service pack, it totally wrecked my computer. I had to re-install windows and everything. With the fresh install, for some reason, the next time I installed the 3rd service pack everything worked fine. For a while. Then, I started getting the blue screen of death. After that, I lost my entire music drive (I'm an electronic music producer) but luckily I had everything backed up this time.
I looked at Windows Vista on a friends computer, and although it looked OK, I found it extremely annoying with constant warnings upon entering sites. All these stupid red shield symbols came up. Going on his computer and seeing how horrible Vista was really made me think twice about getting another PC.
Also, Dell sucks because the original CD they gave me to reinstall windows with was totally incomplete. I lacked several key things I need to install on my computer. It was a headache finding them all. And some things are still not installed properly. I'm not a computer expert, and I hate wasting my time on annoying issues like this when I could be producing music.
Also, Mac is known for being a computer made for artists. More programs, and more stability.
Time to buy a Mac! (when I have the money... sigh) |

After reading this I'd have to say ur biggest obstacle is ur utter lack of knowledge about computers and operating systems. 2.5 - 3mill for a mac here..... |

sounds more like you just shouldnt buy Dell.....hard drive failure, reinstall CD failures...this is all Dell related. blue Screen of death = windows...but could easily be related to hardware aswell.
as for SP3.......hardware config can again explain this, also user error.
I would highly recommend NOT buying Dell cos they're gigantic pieces of crap.
hope you like the Mac. |

Yeah. If you're really cool and artistic, and know little about computers, then Mac is for you.
I bet you can make lots of 'cool' videos and 'cool' songs on a Mac.
The rest of us dweebs, who enjoy countless thousands of affordable software and hardware options, and who bothered to learn a little about our computers, will keep on 'suffering' with Windows.
Windows Vista. 2 years and counting. Not a problem yet. |

they both have their ups and downs.
things i hate about my macbook:
the f**king keyboard blows
the ram gets bogged down way too soon - reboot-reboot-reboot
there's very little expansion possibilities
too many proprietary peripherals
half the windows based mac versions don't work
things i love about my macbook:
one or two of the programs are better
there's no constant monitoring for viruses
take the above and invert them, and that's what I love/hate about windows laptops.
i actually prefer the windows...because i like being on the same page as the rest of the world.
that being said, i'm going to stick with mac simply because my next laptop is going to be the macbook air. solid state hard drive, super thin, full sized yet only 3 lbs.
i'm walking straighter already just thinking about it, since carting around my current laptop is a literal pain in the neck. |

2.5-3mil for a MAC? Whoa! I could get a D700 for 300,000won more...
I love XP. Never understood why there's a SP3. Haven't used it. Don't need it as far as I can tell. Everyone who has used it seems to have problems with it.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. |

I have no shortage of options when looking for software for my Mac. Everything I could ever need, I have.
Most of it, i downloaded for free... and i get free automatic updates. Also, I've learned more about computers SINCE i started using a Mac because the OS is much more intelligent and efficient.
I'd never go back to Windows, even if were free. Congrats to Vista for finally coming around though. |

You could try using rocketdock.
It makes XP/Vista "MAC" like. I've seen some cool MAC skins that completely change the look of windows to mimic MAC's OS X. |

Once you go MAC you never turn back.
Although, i got Windows XP SP3 installed on mine via Parallels. Works fine, and fast. But i only use it for Internet Explorer since Korean websites don't accept anything else.
I like the backlit keyboard on mine. I got the last of the Macbook Pro line before they went to the black keyboard though. |

Rocketdock is nice. I wish there were something like it for Linux. I mean, I've tried avant-window-navigator, kiba-dock, kooldock, cairo-dock, and others, but they just don't look as neat as Rocketdock.
It's odd, because I used XP for years, and now I have 64-bit Vista, and they have both worked fine for me. Now I mostly use Gentoo Linux, but that's because I enjoy learning about computers and don't mind working to make them function.
Which isn't to say that I'm not triple-booting my system with Vista, Gentoo, and OSX... |
