Hey everyone,
Hope everyone is having a good New Years. I am applying to teach overseas for the first time and have a couple quick questions.
I am applying to a few different Hagwons and PS, like Epik. The new E-2 visa asks for apostilles for Background Check and diploma. Do I need to get an original apostille for each job I apply for or can I just have one and make a bunch of copies? If things go well I may want to stay in Asia for 2 or 3 years, how many should I get because it costs money to get them?
Appreciate any links I missed or advice.
Thanks. |

You're going about this all wrong. You first have to decide where you want to work. EPIK or a Cragwon.... I suggest EPIK as they are generally better than most crapwons.
It is only when you accept a job offer that you have to send in your paperwork to anyone.
For example if you accept a job for a hagwon, you must first recieve a contract, sign it and then send them your things.
I think it works alittle differet with EPIK. This was my experience. I used ESL PLANET! Ask for Rowan!! I had to fill out my application and submit it to him. After I had my EPIK interview, that is when I sent in my documents. But, I was already in Korea and just needed a visa transfer.
If this is your first time, you might have to send in your documents with the EPIK application. Lucky for you there is more jobs than jobseekers so the chances of getting rejected are nil.
Hope this helped. |

Apostille was a pain for me. It took forever to get back from Tallahassee (FL). |

Jesse, hagwons are that bad huh? I kind of had a hagwon experience in the States working part-time for an after-school program while I was in college. The ED constantly cursed at us, threatened to deport the H-1 visa interns, suspended my boss without pay, and all other forms of tomfoolery. It was a shame because we (the staff) ran a very good program. The kids only suffer there.
There's gotta be some good hagwons there, but like you said I applied with Epik through Rowan and have my interview in like 30 minutes. I know its a crapshoot, but I'll cross my fingers that I get in a school NOT like the afterschool program I had here!
I also applied to GEPIK and will try to take the one that offers me the best offer in form of pay (since the Won isn't doing the best) and location.
DC, so you were able to do the whole apostille process overseas? Do you recommend that I do like 3 or 4 apostilles and bring them with me, or do they have to be done at the end of each year.
Thanks everyone |

Good for you! Rowan is a stand-up guy!!!
Don't sweat about the interview, it's a peice of cake. As far as pay goes, I think GEPIK and EPIK are pretty much the same.
