I spoke with a friend last night who said that he had been asking to GEPIK about when his severance pay should be paid to him. Last year the school came back with some rule that it could be paid up to 14 days after the end of the contract. As he was staying on he didn;t really care so said fair enough.

This year he contacted GEPIK and asked them when should he be paid - on the last working day or up to 14 days afterwards. DB at GEPIK said up to 14 days into a bank account of your choice.

He said fair enough and will see what happens at the end.

For me this is unacceptable. The contract says nothing about 14 days in it. I've checked through it several times and there is definitely no mention of this 14 day holding period. I don't fancy the chances of my school depositing money into my overseas account or for that matter being able to access my funds here in Korea overseas.

They can't access your funds. They can deposit.

The other stuff, I don't know. But they stick to their rules, even when it is against their best interests. .

that's what my public school said to me last year. but luckily, i emailed the coordinator and was able to work out payment on the last day. eventually my last day came and they told me that they didn't have the money, cue another call to the coordinator. then i got my severance the day after my contract ended (i had a temp extension in my passport)

i'm not sure if it's a real law or not, the coordinator didn't seem surprised at first when i mentioned the 14 days thing, but on my last day she was outraged because the board paid my severance money to the school and then my school spent it

Twice I got it on the last day of my contract, and once (diffent school) on my last payday (25th).
