|
|
An early morning fire broke out at a students' study facility in Suwon, Kyonggi Province, on Monday, killing four lodgers while injuring another four. The fire broke out at about 1:40 a.m. in one of the rooms when the occupant, identified only by his surname Mah, fell asleep leaving a candle burning. Mah, who works for a private delivery service company, later stated during a police investigation that he had lit the candle to get rid of cigarette smoke in the room, but escaped alone without alarming others when he found out there was a fire.
Meanwhile, another fire broke out at an amusement park in Seoul injuring an employee while hundreds of visitors escaped the fire. A fire broke out at an office on the third basement floor in Lotte World, the largest indoor amusement park in South Korea. A female worker, identified by her surname 20, was suffocated by smoke and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The smoke found its way onto the main basement floor, where the park's ice link is located.

Hey, we have it from the Dear Leader himself: smokers are idiots.
Too bad their Darwinism kills others. |

Note that it was the candle, and not a cigarette, that started the conflagration.

So if the guy lit a match to cover the smell of some nasty beer-sh*ts, and then the match sets the the curtains afire, that means his beer-drinking is to blame? He's stupid for not extinguishing the candle; smart for extinguishing his smoke. And dead. He's also dead.

It's all very nice RR, but why don't you add some comments yourself? I only ever see you post what has already been written in the newspapers. |

Fair enough -- people died in a fire and that's not a good thing.

Read the areas I have highlighted (bold).
For example, how can a lit candle get rid of cigarette smoke?
Who has a surname of 20?
What is an ice link? |

1) People believe the smoke is drawn toward the flame (it seems to work that way everytime I've tried it). Though, it doesn't get rid of the smell.
2) I'm stumped.
3) Should be ice rink, or the reporter has bling-bling fever.

Dead? I thought the article said that he escaped without telling anyone. |

I definitely don't want to be anywhere near a fire in Korea. The mob mentality will take over and everyone will push so much, no one will go anywhere, and many people will die unnecessarily.
Anyone remember the Great White concert maybe 2 years ago? There was a fire, and everyone flocked to one exit, instead of using the many exits. As a result, many people died. |

Nobody needs to look any further than the subway fire last year in Daegu. One of the subway operators fled the scene ASAP and took the keys with him. As a result many people died.
Does anyone know if there has been any court proceedings for that case? (either for the operators, the security guards who failed to notice or the perpetrator of the fire) |

This has never been specific to Korea. |

Ouch.
Here is an anomaly for you. You may need to shift your paradigm.
