I've signed up for a two-year contract. After 12 months, am I entitled to a month's bonus pay? |

It makes no mention of severance pay either way. |

According to Korea labor law, two years at a school would entitle you to two months pay - calculated by taking the last three months you were paid and finding the average per month total. Then that average is doubled (because of the two years).
Having said that, some places are exempt from the Severance system. I'm NOT well-versed in that area - however almost all haggies and ps's fall under the law I stated above. If you're not sure and fear your school is trying to give you the shaft, perhaps call the Labor Board (preferabbly with a Korean friend to help out). |

My employer is a private university. Are they exempt? |

I know that some unis have their own pension plan and so are somehow exempt from the severance law. However, I think it's dependant on the particular school. Your best bet is to ask them or to call Labor. I haven't been to a uni yet (starting at one in March), so I don't have any personal experience there. |

If they pay into a private pension systm, then yes, they are exempt from paying severance. If they pay into the national pension system, then no, they are not exempt. |
