Has anyone taken their cat or small dog home with them?

A friend told me that it's possible for your pet to be in the cabin with you in a carrier under your seat as long as the pet weighs less than 5kg..

I told him, I don't think so... all my years of flying I have never heard a dog barking or seen a passenger walking out with a dog!

you guys got any information?

I checked the koreanair website.. and it states YES you can travel with the pet in the cabin!

OK OK before someone says YES dogs only, incase of an emergency they will serve your dog to the koreans.. NOT FUNNY!

I don't know about Korea, but we used to do it in the states all the time!

There may be a sliver of truth to this... or may have been in the past. I remember flying and seeing some guy with a cup dog on the flight. He kept it in his pocket. I assumed he had snuck the thing on.

I spoke to koreanair.. they said they allow dogs under 5kg into the cabin..

but when a korean tells me that I have to doubt it..

probably get to the airport and they will say NO your dog can't fly in cabin are you crazy!!!

Yes, you can. I flew from Seoul to MSP on NWA with a guy next to me that had his little Maltese on the flight. The dog was in a carrier and under the seat in front of him. The flight attendants let him take his dog out and keep it on his lap as long as his neighbors were ok with it. The kids loved it and sometimes he would take the dog to the bathroom to give it some water and food. I think he said it cost around $100 one way or something and COUNTS as carry on bag.

I have flown next to a passenger with a small dog on a Korean Air flight, but this was a few years ago. Maybe get your travel agent to repeatedly confirm?

yeah in case anyone wants to know.. I have got confirmation from the airlines ... they allow dogs which weigh less than 5kg in the carrier bag to accompany you in the cabin.. anything over 5kg must be in the cargo..

What is the cost for this? I have been curious myself.

The policy depends on the airline. Before I even got my dog, I checked with Japan Airlines to make sure traveling home wouldn't be a problem and he could fly in cabin. When I purchased my return ticket, however, the policy had changed (literally the DAY before my ticket was bought, of all the rotten timing), and my dog had to fly cargo.

These policies are mainly determined by passenger allergies. As much as I hate for a dog to have to fly cargo, it makes sense if it means people who are allergic to dogs don't have to suffer for 14 straight hours in the recirculated air.

In the case of a layover with your dog in cargo, the airline takes care of switching the planes. I was a bit nervous about all of that, but my dog arrived in New York absolutely fine. Because your dog will be in cabin, you needn't worry. It ended up costing me 270,000 won.

ETA: Whew - I went back in my records to check on how much the excess baggage fee actually was. Turns out it was 270,00 won, not 170,000 like I originally said.
