Hello,

I have read the bad and the good stories about teaching english, and have found many, many agencies on the internet - but I don't really know which ones to trust or not. Any experience and the agencies name would be great!

I'll try and be concise.

1. A recruiter (agency or individual) works for, and is paid by the potential employer. Therefore:
2. Don't trust anything any recruiter says.
3. Apply due dilligence.
4. Just as potential employees vary, so do individuals working for recruiting agencies.
5. Read the contract!

My advice is to send your resume/photo to whichever recruiters are offering positions that you're interested in. Once that step is done, they'll get in touch with you by email with more information - weed out the ones you don't like, keep the ones you do. It's true that there's a lot of untrustworthy people out there, but there are also recruiters who do their job properly.

Keep in mind that that means "Connecting you with an employer" and nothing else.

Once you have a few companies pursuing you, search here and elsewhere to see what other people have to say.

My only other advice is to NOT give out your phone number until further along in the process, and definitely don't post it anywhere publicly. I can't even count the number of calls I got within the first week from recruiters, some of whom weren't even in Korea.

If they try to switch jobs on you drop them.

For example you applied for a public school job with them and they say o.k. and then two weeks later they say thet job was filled and we can get you into a hogwan really fast.

If this happens run. It's important to make it clear to them what kind of job you want and you won't accept the crap ones.

My recruitor was great. Good ones do exist.
