You can get them at any mom and pop shop in your neighborhood. For me, they are behind the counter. They know what I want when I point to them. The system makes sense from an economic perspective. It provides incentive for reducing your waste. You don't pay for monthly trash service like you would in the states where you can throw away as much as you want. Instead, you pay by the bag. It works for me!

Pink bags? Those are for general trash for me! Shocked The green ones are for waste like pineapple peel and chicken bones. It's all so very different in each county or city, but using the same concepts, so you have to relearn how it all works if you move. Pink is garbage for you and pink is trash for me.

Small grocery stores as well as Emart and Homeplus (if you have them around) sell these bags.

Okay go to your local corner shop and ask for the following:

쓰레기봉투 주세요.
Suregi-bong-tu juseyo.

They normal ask what size and a good size is 50 litres but you can get other smaller sizes.

Make sure you put all your flamable rubbish in the pink/purple rubbish bag otherwise you could face a fine. It took me about a year to adopt the Korean method of throwing rubbish out but remember that this new method of recycling in Korea was not around 10 years ago so those Koreans that went to the USA or Europe (which had and still have stringent recycling laws) were commonly called dirty, lazy, etc when they visited as they never really obeyed the law (which isn't a surprise nowadays - just look at their driving skill).

Anyways, remember to go to the corner shop.
