Well, me and my young co-teacher have become good friends. And as such I started to let him get to know the strange side of me. We were at the Kong Ju festival back in October? when I taught him about the game truth or dare.

I also offered him some money to do something bizzare, i.e., jump in the lake or charge one of the soldiers guarding the fortress in order to reclaim it.

Of course he didn't do it, but he sure enjoyed the quirky side of me.

So my latest stunt was walking around emart with a puppet tiger that I use in class talking to people. When it was not talking I would sit it on my arm and parade around the store showing it to people like it was my new baby. What a blast we had - the puppet and I. After people's initial shock and almost fear, they started laughing and having fun talking to my puppet in Korean.

What a great icebreaker and way to re-affirm that us foreigners are crazy.

My next gimmick is to go to one of the major stations and have my co-teacher put me on a leash while he beats me with a belt and yells: Yongo hae bwa. Speak English!

Anyway just wanted to let you'all know that you can have fun in Korea and represent Westerners well.

I was thinking "what an idiot/clown/crazy mf" while reading about the puppet.

But the leash and Korean screaming "Speak English!" was hilarious. I almost fell off my chair.

You should bring a camera along. Upload some videos to Youtube. I would love to see how everyone reacts. Sort of a Hidden Cameras: Korea.

This thread goes to show that "fun" is a relative concept, as being a look-at-me puppet-wielding goofball in a foreign supermarket to stroke my ego or offset my culture shock isn't all that appealing to me.

What WOULD be fun is watching you try a similar act back home, and getting pummelled.

Man, it would be so nice to turn on the TV one day and see foreigners not just clowning around, but actually teaching advanced concepts on a respectable show...

I do a similar kind of thing...for example yesterday I decided that instead of wearing my usual suit to work..I wore jeans! Everyone was very amused and surprised but especially when I pulled up my top and they noticed I wasn't wearing a belt!! Madness!! Then, at lunch they started to serve me kimchi, and I said "no thank you, I don't actually like kimchi."
Well, we all had a good old laugh about that one!!
The dinner lady got in on the act one of my co teachers translated - she said: "You foreigners! whatever will you come up with next ?!! You are all bloody mad!"

All in all crazy day! But that's me...MAD!!

just shows that immigration screening, medical tests and criminal tests dont seem to catch em all.....still holes in the system.
