This ain't my first rodeo, and I'm sure you have similar coworkers. A typical day in the teacher's office:

Teacher A comes in and says something like "Word up G-Money?" to teacher B. The two then talk about teacher X, whom they say at bar 1 the other night. The conversation then devolves into who was the drunkest and who was desperate enough to go home with "That skanky crooked-toothed b*tch." Teacher C comes in wondering what he missed...he's always out of the loop but never far behind.

The boss comes in and tells everybody that Bar 1 is for losers because their drink prices are too high and that any self-respecting expat would be seen at bar 2 come Saturday night. Then the boss proceeds to hand out a flier to promote his band's gig at said bar.

Teacher D (the loud annoying kiwi who must constantly be drunk) chastises the boss for playing at such a lame establishment. The two then get into a pissing contest about the best bar in Seoul. Meanwhile the other teachers vie for control of the staffroom's attention by finding toilet humor on youtube.

Then it's time for a smoke before class and the staffroom empties, leaving me and the other nerds to chat about teaching approaches, MA programs, and the best place to study Korean.

I need to buy a pocket protector.

just like you cant choose family, its pretty difficult to choose work mates too, unless of course you leave which would be a drastic step to say the least.

Id prefer someone to talk to, rather than just the boring english teachers at my PS. oohhhh for a normal conversation during the day.....or just one in fluid english.

I second this.

My co-workers probably have similarly inane conversations to the OP, but it's all in rapid fire Korean so I don't understand a thing they say.

I don't know which is better, really.

I find my language abilities are atrophying because of this. Like a limb you don't use enough.

i think i need a balance of the two. i find my korean teachers at work just talk about school, i have some friends who are into korean culture and museums all the time, and then other friends that just want to get drunk and dance. i've got a good balance going Very Happy
