I tried to do a search on here, but nobody ever listed the actual charge for diamonds or jewellery.

Perhaps someone would be kind enough to find it on this site: http://www.customs.go.kr/

Thanks

Hey there!

On that Korean page, towards top-left they have English.

Click on that and the first box, third section states that jewellery is taxed at 20% (if valued at over 2 million won, if I'm reading that right...).

Thanks a lot. I don't know why I didn't see the English option.

It looks like I'd be charged 8% for customs, 10% for VAT, and 20% for Special Excise tax Shocked

Please don't buy diamonds. You fund massive terrorist enterprises that bring about the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people a year. Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but they are one of man's worst enemies.

Great. While you two are committing wholesale rape and murder, I'll have one less DeBeers payment on my karmic balance sheet.

If the OP is buying his diamonds in a black market in Cote D'voire, you may have a point, otherwise..
Get over yourself. Less 1% (around 0.2%) of diamonds that reach the market are blood diamonds, so stop the hyperbole please.

Haha I can't believe you believe that. DeBeers controls 75% of the world's entire diamond market, whether directly or by proxy. They are funding those wars, and through them, so are you.

Well, if anyone here has ever bought a Playstation, you're doing the same "blood diamond" thing. A rare mineral found mainly in Africa is used to produce a part of the system and is responsible for just as much of the horrible shit that goes on there as diamond mining.

Even Canadian diamonds just go to perpetuate the stereotype that diamonds are a symbol of love and everyone should own one, etc. We're not talking about one or two people dying, we're talking about the cash money that you pay for that diamond goes from the retailer to the broker to DeBeers to Africa to the intermediary. The intermediary gets the diamonds from the warlords who use the captured as slave labor to mine more diamonds. He takes that money and buys more guns to keep control.

It's not like "Two of my friends died blah blah blah..." It's like hundreds of thousands of people died blah blah blah...

I've never seen Blood Diamond.

Straphanger is the number one troll on Dave's right now. I honestly miss Cornfed compared to this guy. At least he had some nuts.
