OK boys and girls, let's play nice now.

I'm just curious how many ESLcafers were able to find another job in Korea after being dismissed / fired from one hagwon. Did you have to tell a lot of your story to the recruiter / new school? Did a neutral / negative reference from your old school stop you from getting a job elsewhere?

Spill your guts people - you know you want to Smile

Why do you need to know? Have you been fired?

Pure curiosity? Yeah, didn't think that would fly...

Please note I'm rather vague intentionally, not because I don't like you guys.

I've been given a thirty-day notice for some bu!!sh!t reasons, but the 'real' reasons are supposedly that I hurt two separate kids in two separate incidents MONTHS ago, where my side of the story was never asked for, never heard, wasn't intentional, and only happened because the kids didn't do what they were asked to do about 20 times each. I know who to call / contact if they don't deliver on their promises, and I've already got enough dirt to bury them. This is beside the point - I'm looking at the future, which is why I ask the question.

Before I get written off as a bad teacher, I show up to class everyday with a mindset to teach. I actually LIKE teaching - not babysitting, but teaching. I didn't just come to Korea to teach, but the opportunity of further exploring a career option I had already dabbled in was exciting. I developed tests, I got my kids interested in learning English, and I got some good discussions going in older classes... Of course you'll always have a few students who think you're weird, but nothing out of the ordinary.

OK ESLcafers - your turn Smile

This poll is inclusive to those that have been fired only, so I have nothing to share other than I have never been fired teaching here. Smile

I was fired twice this year and I'm teaching at my third job.

Does that answer your question?

It would probably be easier to ask questions and get answers based on your situation.

I immediately arranged for a new job after being forced out of my old one, but I had to wait four months before the position was open for me. So I took some time back home. Four months is a long time not to work though. But my new job is excellent: best one yet.

It's actually a pretty good apartment. The school didn't know about the condition of it since I switched with the last teacher without anything being inspected. The boss is coming by tomorrow morning:

"Please get rid of this bed and get me a new one."

Yup. Signed two contracts too hastily. Man needs to work. Took my time looking for the current one. I transferred from my job of three years to the first one. Didn't need any documents for that (I think). Didn't have to leave the country and no CRC needed. Came under the gun. Needed a visa run and a criminal report for the second one. Needed a visa run and a criminal report with a VSS for the current one. Firs one was WIN EDUCATION. Don't work for them. After school program. Tried to cheat me on my first pay (among other things) and pretty much forced them to fire me. Second one was making changes in the company and gave me a month's notice when they didn't have to (was only four months in). Just as well. Current one looks good. Pay is good.
